What do you consider "Retro"
Re: What do you consider "Retro"
I'd say two generations back for me, I consider N64/PSX stuff kind of the cutoff right now personally.
Re: What do you consider "Retro"
Yeah, I would say anything pre ps2.

Anything that came out before PS2 is retro. Anything that came out afterwards but can't be found in stores anymore is just old, but not retro. As for PC games, everything that came out in 2000 and before is retro.

Truth to bruno, we need a little space in the years before we start lumping xbox and PS2 in the retro crowd.brunoafh wrote:Retro for me begins at 5th gen. 6th gen will become "retro" for me in a few more years. It's hard to look at masterpieces like God Hand and SoTC and consider them retro.
Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?

Re: What do you consider "Retro"
I used to say any console that was 2 gens back, or else had been succeeded twice. So when the 3DS comes out, the GBA will officially be retro to me. It also included consoles from at least 1 gen back with no direct successor - like the Wonderswan, Neo Geo Pocket and Dreamcast.
However, I'm starting to think of gamecube and PS2 as retro now, so I guess that's not a strict definition for me. Despite my aforementioned GBA example as becomign retro when the 3DS is out, I've been considering that retro for a few years now already too, so I guess I don't really have any rigid rules.

Dreamcast back for consoles. I already consider the Gameboy Advance retro handheld wise.

If I like it, it's retro. If I don't, it's modern.

As sad as it is for me to admit it:
Retro to me is anything 'not sold at Gamestop'

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

I'm not sure the N-Gage is retro, though.avrame wrote:As sad as it is for me to admit it:
