I mentioned this in my free games thread, but this is a better forum for discussing it.
Personally, I think the game looks good based on the trailer. I'm not going to make a blanket statement that it should or should not have been made before playing it.
Art, movies, television, and literature have all released some gory stories about nazi Germany. It is a gory and horrible moment in history, so one should expect that in the media surrounding it. I think part of the argument against this mod is simply because videogames are not as respected of a form of media as are the others. People think that this will be fun blood, not condemning nazis as bad blood. The fact that they used Wolfenstein 3D makes it look more childish to the naive observer as well, though from the point of view of an oldschool gamer, it makes sense that they would tell a different nazi story using a game that was originally set in nazi germany (albeit with a robotically-enhanced Hitler).
I don't know. I can see how it might be tacky and I can see how it might be a great game. It could also just be yet another boring mod. Like I said, I'm in interested enough to play it, so I'll just reserve my judgment until that point.

So how about those games were you fight as the "good" guys, when in reality they were the bad guys, but since history is written by the winners, no school history book accepts it?corn619 wrote:I think people making a form of entertainment from the deaths of millions of people is shameful and its obvious these people have no class or respect for anyone. BTW I love how all high and mighty the winners of WW2 think they are, condemning the Nazi's so much, when their history is full of holocausts. In Asia Alexander the Great is known as Alexander the Butcher, hey Jews, the native Americans say hi, oh hi every country in the world that used to be a European colony (mostly British/French/Spanish). What's that? Your country is still a hellhole after being exploited for centuries by Europeans and you were left poor and unstable in this past century? Tough luck.

I see what both of you are saying. But putting that all aside, it still looks like a fun and entertaining video game, and that's exactly what it was developed for. Entertainment, not controversy. Things such as this are thought of too deeply.ZeroAX wrote:So how about those games were you fight as the "good" guys, when in reality they were the bad guys, but since history is written by the winners, no school history book accepts it?corn619 wrote:I think people making a form of entertainment from the deaths of millions of people is shameful and its obvious these people have no class or respect for anyone. If you read all my posts, you would have seen I answered this from another poster who already asked the same exact question. Anyways, this is my opinion agree or disagree I don't give a crap. Maybe I kind of came on a little strong at first but, I just don't feel entertained or like playing these kinds of games, sorry.ZeroAX wrote:So how about those games were you fight as the "good" guys, when in reality they were the bad guys, but since history is written by the winners, no school history book accepts it?corn619 wrote:I think people making a form of entertainment from the deaths of millions of people is shameful and its obvious these people have no class or respect for anyone. Its not like its very tastefully done either. I've played it, the game sucks. I'm really done arguing about this as everyone feels differently about it. We could argue pointlessly about it for days for no reason. And not to be rude but, your kinda coming off jerky. Also, your arguments really don't make any sense, are very vague and poorly written, no offense.
They were all terrible acts and I don't think many of the "winners" or losers who fight in wars think of themselves as mighty. I also don't think the Jews or Native Americans are comparing genocides to see which one is worst like you are. Certain aspects of your take on history are warped and just plain whacked out. For example, who the hell are the bad guys that were the "good" guys who were the bad winners who wrote history anyways? Man, you went to a fucked up school dude.
Re: Is bloody Auschwitz escape game cathartic or sick?
It's just a game, don't play it if you find it offensive. All your doing is hyping the game even more.

Perhaps not but you single out the creators by saying they are "idiots looking for attention", that they have "no class or respect" and that making such a game is "shameful".corn619 wrote:If you noticed in my post I didn't single out this game.
Miraculously making the game is shameful but the game itself is fine? What the hell, dude?
That you don't like the game doesn't mean the game is morally reprehensible. Its not like its very tastefully done either. I've played it, the game sucks.

When did I say the game itself was fine? If you read my posts you would have read I clearly said the game sucks. Don't put words in my mouth dude, thanks. I didn't like the game for multiple reasons not just for the subject matter. I never was much of a Wolfenstein fan and to be honest the game hasn't aged well at all. Also, I just thought seeing pixelated Jews being lined up and shot by pixelated Nazi's wasn't cool, thats all. Anyways, I done talking about it. Play the game and have fun I really don't care. I'm entitled to my opinion about it.General_Norris wrote:Perhaps not but you single out the creators by saying they are "idiots looking for attention", that they have "no class or respect" and that making such a game is "shameful".corn619 wrote:If you noticed in my post I didn't single out this game.

Re: Is bloody Auschwitz escape game cathartic or sick?
wow please do attack me more. Please do attack me more. I honestly don't understand how you didn't get that I was making fun of how one sided history is. BTW did you learn history from your school books? I'm sorry but anyone thinking that the history being taught in schools around the world, is anything more than plain propaganda is deluding himself (oh yeah, NO OFFENSE).corn619 wrote:

I never attacked you in that post. I was just making fun of history. BTW which of my facts about history are warped? When the fuck did I compare genocides? I just said that the Germans were hardly the only ones who did it.
Next time please restrain from being such a prick and attacking me without being provoked. NO OFFENSE.
and
Twist my words much?who the hell are the bad guys that were the "good" guys who were the bad winners who wrote history anyways?
And want an example of people conquering nations and saying it's a good thing? I'll give you 3. Alexander the Great, Roman Empire, British Empire. What these 3 have in common is that they killed so many people to conquer a huge part of the world and it was all in the name of "progress" and that they were spreading civilization to barbarians. To this day their exploits are depicted as heroic. Some of them were. Some of them weren't. I just want to see history always being depicted by multiple sides.

I don't think that you are entitled to an opinion that insults people without a good reason.corn619 wrote:I'm entitled to my opinion about it.
If you so think that the creators are "idiots" who "are only looking for attention" prove it or shut up. It's that simple.
You have not proven that the game is morally reprensible.

Heres what you said.
You were just all over the timeline with that post, I thought we were talking about WWII and then you started throwing Indians & Alexander into it. Sorry, but it was a little hard to follow. Maybe I'm a little crabby from a 60 hour work week, I don't know. I wasn't really attacking you either, believe me. Anyways, I apologize calling your post jerky sounding. Please take back the "prick" remark and lets do a virtual handshake.
And heres my question back to you.ZeroAX wrote:So how about those games were you fight as the "good" guys, when in reality they were the bad guys, but since history is written by the winners, no school history book accepts it?
I don't think I twisted anything man. Maybe it wasn't word for word or maybe I misunderstood you, but it wasn't twisted to mean something else. And calling me a prick is a little harsh. I didn't use any profanity to describe you. Its just your original post came off kinda rude sounding, from what I understood of it.corn619 wrote:For example, who the hell are the bad guys that were the "good" guys who were the bad winners who wrote history anyways?
