I LOVE the original GB games and play them alot! I LOVE donkey kong land it rules another game I play in my original GB is the original pokemon series! I would never give away my GB games!

The entire series of Mario land games (which goes into the Wario Land series) are great, Metroid 2, the Kid Icarus game; most of the Nintendo games are solid A+ titles you can love. I personally like Mega Man Xtreme quite a bit. It's prolly my favorite megaman game, partially because I find it to be the most reasonable and easiest. Granted I haven't played too many megaman games, but it is the only megaman game I've beaten without save states.

Out of the pokemon games, my favorite is crystal.

Metal Gear Solid for GBC was great.
Donkey Kong '94 is my favorite puzzle game ever.
Nintendo World Cup remains my handheld sporting favorite.
I spent alot of time with Mario Land 2...even made it to Wario, but I never beat him
I remember the Double Dragon games being decent for GameBoy, specifically #2

And a GameBoy was my only system until I got a SNES at 11....in 1996 I have weird, but fond memories of gameboy games. everyone had one and everyone had different games to play, most of them pure crap of course (ie movie and kids show titles). and I always played them at odd times.

Na seriously, the Gameboy Zelda titles were excellent titles. I played thru the Oracle games with friends and it worked really well. Infact does anyone know where the Heros password goes? I wrote it down and stuck it to my wall, its been there for 5 years people.

Links Awakening is fantastic, I love the photo sprites in DX. Hillarious, they make awesome avatars. ^_^

My favourite GB games would have to be the Wario Land series, Mario Land, Mario Sports titles and Pokemon. The MGS game(Ghost Babel) is one of the best games ever according to Gamerankings.com

Donkey Kong (the 94 puzzle-platformer) was a fantastic game. Still holds up with addictive, one-more-level kind of feel. I was really pleased to see that game on EGM's list of Top 200 games a couple years ago.

Like others have said, the Mario Land titles are good and Metroid 2 was pretty good. I also loved Motocross Maniacs. Final Fantasy Adventure is worth having in your collection if for no other reason than it's the precursor to Secret of Mana. It's pretty much just a simple Zelda clone, though, from what I remember.

But I have to say, in reference to Racket's question, that I guess I don't "care" about them as much these days. My old GB is in my closet. I did play a few of my old GB games when I had a GBA SP, but I traded that in when I got a DS and of course the DS won't play those first-generation GB titles. Sometimes I wish I would have kept that thing just to play stuff like DK or Tetris.

Anyone notice how most of the titles we've mentioned are first-party? The more things change, the more they stay the same for Nintendo.

I loved that one. I think I played most of it on an emulator, but it gets so hard! That's why I don't like some of those puzzle/action games. There's always that one point in the game where the difficulty suddenly jumps and only the pros can go on from there...

I don't really play ANY portable games, but it's only because console gaming takes up so much of my time

That being said however, when I had the original gameboy there were some good games on it I wouldn't mind playing again. Mario Land was fantastic, and there was a very good Ninja Turtles game I remember playing on there. I don't think you could really call this a retro site without doing a piece on the original Gameboy's hidden gems.

There's a very overlooked Shmup genre on the GB/C. I was just reading through this forum and remembering a few of the games I played on my ol' DMG. Sure, most of them are ports of older games, but there a few gems there.

Oddly enough I actually bought a GB game a couple weeks ago. Probably been 15 years since I've done that! I got Faceball 2000 for a couple of bucks. It's *kind of* an FPS on the gameboy. Pretty slick. That would definitely be a title that "pushed the limits" of the GB. It actually plays surprisingly well even today.
