I have the 2K slim and it works just fine for basic emulation. The Pandora hack is pretty easy to do as well. I suck at that stuff and even I was able to fumble my way through. I used this battery I bought from Deal Extreme http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22349

I had every possible version of the PSP:
A launch unit
a 2k unit
a 3k unit
a PSPgo

And a word of advice is that the moddable 2k units are pretty hard to find nowadays. Depending on the motherboard in the unit, the pandora battery will or won't work, and from my experience, lots of people hunt pawnshops for 2k units with a pandora-able motherboard, and hock it up on craigslist or ebay.

Thankfully, depending on the version of the PSP's firmware, all PSP can run homebrew using either a HEN exploit or the HBL from wololo.net

Go with a PSPgo. I originally bought one thinking it was unmoddable, but my god, they've come a long way in the modding community. With the PSPgo, you can easily launch homebrew now, and with the added benefit of TV out and bluetooth, it's a definite win for me.

I currently have a Genesis and GBA emulator running on my PSPgo, hooked to my 46" tv, and playing on it with a Dualshock 3. Hard to say that I don't regret buying it now :)

wololo.net <- This is where you can get info on what models/firmwares you can run certain exploits with to enable homebrew/emulators

This is news to me. Hrmm...

This is why I'm hyping it so much ^_^

Honest to god, I just found out about it 3 days before Thanksgiving. I loved my PSPgo before then, but now, it's a beast. Screw gaming on my Android emulators, I have a portable console that plays emulators with a proper gamepad :)

What's the most current firmware, and are there any downgrades out there to put it to the most current hackable firmware?

Most current firmware is 6.35, but no games enforce you to update. Only way to be forced to update is by attempting to access the PSN. The Homebrew Enablers (HEN for short) currently support up to 6.31 (what I have), and have promised to distribute a update to support 6.35 before XMas.

At the moment, I buy my PSP games on my PS3, then transfer it to my PSP. This allows me to keep my HEN enabled 6.31, and still legally buy PSP games from the PSN.

Interesting. I didnt know that. I figured the 2K was like the 1K and could be hacked regardless. In all my hacking exploits, I also taught myself how to take the PSP apart and replace the faceplates. I cant remember the website I got the faceplates from but they looked great. Mines got a Silver one on it now and I had a clear one before.

All this PSP hacking talk makes me wanna get back into it

If you really don't care at all about UMD games/ISOs, go with the PSPgo. However, there are a TON of great original PSP games that you would be missing out on.

I say get a 2000.
