In the story department I would pick Halo just because it offers something different compared to the first couple COD which is the same WW2 story over and over again. With MW and MW2 though I would lean to them having a better story but Halo just offers something interesting,to me at least. But if this was some desert island situation COD for the win with the "better" multiplayer

I prefer Call of Duty, as I enjoy WWII FPS games. It was entertaining to see a game which allowed me to play the Eastern Front, and the Stalingrad level is one of the most memorable areas of any FPS I've ever played. While I'm not very big on vehicle combat, the United Offensive expansion pack did include binoculars, which became the staple weapon with the folks I played with. That was an area in which Call of Duty excelled: it allowed me to melee with everything, be it guns, knives, grenades, or even the binoculars. Playing Pavlov where everyone is trying to beat each other to death is awesome.

In fact, many of my favorite memories of playing FPS multiplayer come from Call of Duty. It was actually the first video game I ever played with Fastbilly back in 2004, as well as many other friends that don't visit this website. The only WWII FPS I played that could really compare for me would have to be Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault was entertaining, but it just doesn't have the personal history of these other two.

Oh wait, are we talking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?

It seemed to aim that way but your response is justified.

Any of the COD games. Good explanation you wrote too. :)

I second this. Although I must admit I enjoy the multiplayer on Halo: CE for PC quite a bit, I never cared for any other Halo games or any COD games much. Doom still takes priority. Also, Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

EDIT: Oh yeah, can't forget Lethal Tender. I have that sitting around on a floppy somewhere around here.

When I read this I was thinking, "another 360 kid debating whether CoD or Halo is better," and we were just talking about this in another thread, but then I saw MKII Reptile in your sig. Not too many MK fans, we're out numbered by Street Figher Fans, so we gotta stick together!

But to stay on topic... I have only played the first Halo, and I don't have a 360 so I guess I cannot comment too much. I've played the first one for PC though. I enjoyed the single player, not the best game I've ever played but it was decent. Story matters little to me, but that flood came out of left field and made the second half of the game kinda Doom themed. I played it online a lot, mainly because a few of my friends wanted to. It was me and 4 of my friends that played Halo online almost every night for a few months. It was a lot of fun, I'll admit. Might only be because it was with MY friends though. And I also hosted all the games, so I had complete control over everything including kicking people from the game. That probably had something to do with it too.

I have the second Halo for PC as well, but I never played it. I've been meaning to, but, meh. If the 3rd one ever gets a PC port, then I'll be sure to play the second one in preparation. But at this point in time, if I'm gonna play a Halo game on PC it's gonna be online with the first one again.

Call of Duty games, I honestly don't know how I feel about anymore. I briefly played the first one for PS2 (Finest Hour?) and it sucked horrible, so I skipped it along with the second one (Big Red One?) on PS2. Eventually I picked up the CoD War Chest for PC and enjoyed the first game. And I REALLY enjoyed the second game. Never played either online, couldn't of cared less about it. The single player was solid.

Then CoD3 comes out. I eventually got it on the Wii for cheap (didn't have a PS3 at the time) and just couldn't get into it. At the time, I really liked using the motion controls for FPS, but I just couldn't get in to it. So then Modern Warfare comes out and I get it for PC. I was playing through the single player (what I care about more) and it wasn't grabbing me. It was a good game, but it wasn't unlike anything I've seen and/or played a million times before. I remember talking about it at the time, MoH Airborne was out then. I had a lot of fun playing through Airborne (on PC), but I ended up only playing about half way through MW before I stopped.

I got a free copy of World at War for PC, and I did enjoy playing it. I liked it better than Modern Warfare, but I never played all the way through it (lost my save I think). Now the new ones out, Black Ops is it called? I really couldn't care less about it. Maybe I'll play it one day, but I don't really care to right now.

The CoD and Halo series became way too popular to be good anymore. Seems the focus shifted to the online play and the single player modes suffer. There's just too many of them now for me to even care. They're all FPS, so they're all the same. I bet if I played Black Opts right now I'd feel like I've played it before.

And I honestly thought that I got sick of FPS, which I used to love a lot. It wasn't that, it was just that the same old games were being released with minor improvements. Nothing new. Give me something like Turok (which I ironically haven't played yet) to mix it up. The new Goldeneye for Wii is different enough to make a FPS fun again for me. It almost feels like the CoD and Halo series is getting to be like sport games series. Just cut the shit and call them CoD 08, CoD 09.

I really don't know what I was rambling on about, so I take no responsibility for this post!

the irony is that the only series that tried to actually do that (Unreal Tournament 2k3 and 2k4) only did it for 1 year, and shockingly enough the 1 year update was waaaaaaaaaaay better than the previous game.
