Ditto for me. I'm a fast typist as well.thekorean12 wrote:Well if it's missing letters then I would say your computer is old and slow. I have no issues with typing at any speed. The instant aspect of google instant seems pretty flawless to me.

Firefox, latest version
intel i7 2.66ghz
8gb ram
Use my computer to edit 1080p AVCHD so I'd say it's not the problem.

interesting for me, thanks

It shows up in my Safari Find Bar as well. I think Mac OSX Safari does this though. A little intrusive, but sometimes I cursor down if it brings up words I'm getting ready to type. I don't think this chokes down the typing entry, I am running a Retro iMac 500mhz.

I still hate the new layout of Google Images, painfully put up with it now.

I went to that Google Home Page. Instead of a blue Instant On button there is a Install Google Chrome button. Maybe thats the problem on yours, remove Google Chrome?Gadgetwise wrote: http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/201 ... e-instant/
If you really hate it, here’s how to turn it off: If your browser has Google Instant enabled, go to the google.com homepage and look to the right of the search box. You should see a link in tiny blue type: “Instant is on.” Click that, and up pops a menu to turn Google Instant on or off, as well as another option to learn more about the feature.

Just out of curiosity - why? I use Google images daily for work-related purposes and think that the overhaul is the best thing Google has done in a long time...CRTGAMER wrote: I still hate the new layout of Google Images, painfully put up with it now.

I don't like it either... but I just don't care for change.
Re: How do I turn off google instant PERMANENTLY
For me is two things.noiseredux wrote:I don't like it either... but I just don't care for change.
1. The initial page load, its not bad, but a little slow. I sometimes can't just open the reduced image in a new page or right click save that small preview image. A workaround of clearing the cookies sometimes works, which also wipes out cookies such as my login here.
2. When clicking a preview image, have to slug through the original web page loading in the background. Some sites are very Java Script intense slow loading and I can't turn off Java for visiting my regular sites. All I want to do is see the stupid full image "Google Instantly!"

Hmm, I don't have any of these problems. Maybe it is browser specific? I use Firefox.CRTGAMER wrote:For me is two things.

Sure, this is a problem... but it is actually handled much better than it was on the old image search. Before, the whole page would load and you'd have to find the image yourself. Now the whole page still loads, but the image is brought to the forefront.2. When clicking a preview image, have to slug through the original web page loading in the background. See the attached pics with Right Click Boxes shown.
In playing and comparing the link you provided I discovered something. Old way allows Right Click and open the preview image in a new window. The new current Google Images screen won't allow that until the image is Java zoomed in with the mouse arrow placed over it.
A somewhat awkward work around, Thankyou! Nice to know there is an option to preview the old way with each Website URL showing up front. A click still brings up the Google preview and the original image Website combined slow loading Java. Then to just open the site another painful load to get rid of the Google preview image. A shame one can't directly open just the enlarged image.
Now where to keep the HTTP preliminary text to auto appear?
Maybe somehow make it work in the Google Instant function?
Ideal situation would be enter word only and the search cookie sticked to the older Google Image screen.

Doesn't really help for quick word searches, have to type out the whole Google Image HTTP address. A copy insert word in place of the boldface above and paste to the address bar.Lifehacker wrote:http://lifehacker.com/5594912/get-back- ... a-url-hack
The new Google Image search has a Switch to basic version link at the bottom of the page, but it doesn't stick, so if you prefer the old view, you'll have to scroll all the way down there every time. The_Doc offers the solution:
If you don't like the new Google Image Search design, add: &sout=1 to the URL to use the the "basic" (i.e. old) version. Update your bookmarked keyword searches accordingly.
So, for example:
http://images.google.com/images?q=puppy
...would become:
http://images.google.com/images?q=puppy&sout=1
Now where to keep the HTTP preliminary text to auto appear?
Maybe somehow make it work in the Google Instant function?

IIRC, the old GIS didn't load the original page at all unless you clicked a link to "see the image in its original context"
