Well, to some people, RPGs are probably very difficult but for veterans of the genre, I guess they could be frustrating rather than difficult. IMO, the 3D Final Fantasy games are somewhat difficult. I just can't get into them, I find them to be a bit complex.

Well, I consider the Zelda games to be part RPG, I mean you still play the role of someone and you gain new "skills" with items you find.

Got any tips? I heard Nocturne was supposed to be hard, it was slightly more complex then usual, but not hard. Phantasy Star II is another one that's notoriously hard, but with the exception of finding the visiphone it pretty much plays itself.

The only real difficult RPGs I've played have been 8-bit western RPGs (bard's tale) and Roguelikes (Nethack).

In that case Super Mario Brothers is an RPG. You play the roll of Mario, and you gain skills by collecting mushrooms/flowers.

Hatta, like I mentioned in my earlier post try Demon Souls. That game really separates the men from the boys. If you manage to finish it, I heard you grow hair on your chest and your voice deepens. Personally the game kicked my ass over and over again. I may give it another shot as defeat is something I don't take easily.

I'll probably get to demon souls some time after the PS4 comes out.

Yes, this, and I'd throw some of the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games in there too. Some RPGs that I found easy but really enjoyed include Mass Effect, Tales of Legendia, and Grandia II.

Suikoden 1 and 2 are very easy, yet incredibly enjoyable. I'm not sure I recall losing a battle in either of them last time they were played. They also don't have any optional, super difficult bosses like most modern RPGs. They are amazing just the same though.

Lufia 2 is very easy. The battles are a piece of cake. There are a few puzzles that might take some thought, and the ancient cave is definitely something you have to work for, but overall the game is not difficult.

Blue Dragon is a very easy current generation RPG on the normal difficulty. A few of the achievements are tough, but I didn't find much challenge in anything else.

Maybe you are just smart and have a good memory. I find Nocturne to be challenging because you have to remember so many things about what elements work on what creatures, which demons fuse best together, and what makes it most likely that you will score a bonus attack or critical hit. Because there are so many bits of information to juggle, I find Nocturne challenging for planning out a good party to maximize wins in battle. I don't find the game to be exceedingly difficult, but it's one of the only RPGs I've actually died in multiple times. Most rpgs just get me worried that I might run out of heal potions or something, but I always prevail anyway. Nocturne actually beat me down on several occassions and I had to plan a different strategy when I went back. When battles can last 30 minutes, this is particularly punishing. I think that's why the game is notorious for being diffficult.

Digital Devil Saga has a similar effect, but it tends to be difficult because on top of that, there are a shit ton of random encounters, so you really have to manage your resources well so that you can survive until the next save spot (which is a challenge even when it is only a few paces away).
