I choose the SuperFamicom one since it's the same design as the PAL SNES, colored buttons on the controller and everything... I never had a PAL snes myself growing up but I do remember the pretty colored buttons when playing it in a gameshop. As you guys already said, it's an image that got stuck in your mind, the only difference here is that it's the PAL design that I remember from my childhood.

I prefer the mini SNES...I can't choose that option though. The SuperFC is really cool looking, but I really like the grey and two-tone purple look of the US version.
Someone called it a tank, and funny enough, I'm pretty sure I read that the guy who designed the original 'toaster' style NES also was the designer of the US SNES and I've always thought that was pretty cool. Or at least a pretty cool job, if you ask me.

I've always preferred the SFC design over the SNES design. The purple and how boxy it is has always been kind of a turn off to me in comparison to the sleek look of the SFC.

SFAM here as well. i recently picked one up over a US console and decided to widen the cartridge slot a bit. even with that little modification, it's much nicer than the US machine. :]

Was there a particular reason why the US/Canada got the funkodelic model instead of the standard design? I know the whole point behind the toaster NES was to avoid comparisons to the failed game consoles of the crash - Was 'The Color Purple' number one in theaters and Nintendo saw an opportunity?

Purple stands for royalty. And that is exactly what Nintendo was in the late 80s and early 90s.

I've heard it had something to do with FCC regulations but I can't verify it with a source.
EDIT: I can't find anything to support this after doing some research, but I did find this much:

I think both versions look very good in their own ways. but I have to choose PAL Super NES because it's sleeker and I grew up with it. It just looked so powerfull back then.
Damn, I miss those cartridge-based-toaster console designs

Yeah I agree both version does look good, however I voted for NTSC since that's what I have. How about the mini one's?

I think my favorite is the version 2 SNES
