Not a chance. Too expensive.
Besides, it's one thing to admit that piracy is inevitable. Doing carts again would be like Nintendo raising damn jolly roger themselves.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Not gonna happen.
Single layer DVD at 4.5GB's: .3cents to manufacture
Carts of a comparable size on ultra expensive MASK ROM chips: $20-$30 or more.
The chips in DS carts don't cost neat that much when a brand new budget DS game might cost $20. Gigs of info can obviously fit on a tiny chip these days too. But yeah, carts probably won't come back.

The Biggest DS cart currently made is the 1gigabit cart.
1gigabit = 256mb.
There's no way they would be able to make a mask rom that big for under the prices I mentioned.

If by "currently" you mean 2007? Sands of Destruction is on a 2Gb cart, and was released in Japan in 2008. The upcoming Ni no Kuni will be using a 4Gb cart.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:The Biggest DS cart currently made is the 1gigabit cart.
It's still not nearly enough space for a modern console game. It's not gonna happen.

Its nice to dream though.
Do you think Nintendo will stay with carts on their handhelds for a while?

Very likely. Any storage medium that involves moving parts tends to be problematic for handheld devices.Opa Opa wrote:Do you think Nintendo will stay with carts on their handhelds for a while?

I'm pretty sure a 4 Gigabit DS cartridge has already been used; Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days was about 500 MB.

You're probably right. I just went with the first 4Gb cart Google brought up for me. Leave it to Square to eat up excessively large amounts of storage space on any platform.lisalover1 wrote:I'm pretty sure a 4 Gigabit DS cartridge has already been used; Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days was about 500 MB.
