It's hard to know if they have mod chips or not. And it is more of a diamond in the rough type deal.

There is no way to know it actually has one until you buy it and then get it home and take a look. I've purchased about 20 from there ranging from 5 to 15 bucks a pop. 3 have been modded.

Something to look for to increase your chances of finding one though... make sure it is a model 2 with round buttons, and check for any damage to the bottom of the case like someone has opened it. If the case has been opened before, there is a good chance it is modded.

Flea Markets are the way to go, like 75% of the stuff I have comes from those types of places, and as lordofduct said, avoid specialty stores and the ones that have neat stacks or things of the sort, also, don't show any emotion if you find a rare item, you'll get a much better price by asking "how much does this cost?" than "Oh WOW!! How much for this SNES Chrono Trigger?!?!"

Try going with friends, if something has a high price, have your friend ask for the same thing later, sometimes works too and learn how to haggle, a great thecnique I've been polishing over the years, buying multiple things also works, and never be afraid to ask for a price, sometimes you get nice surprises or the price goes down after some time.

If you are a regular at a swap meet, take some time to chat with some sellers, they get you some better prices or save up stuff for you to have a look before they put it on sale, I knew a seller from the arcades in Jr High, he always saves retro stuff for me and gives me great prices, he once saved up a Genny 1 with SEGA CD, 2 cd games, 1 cart game, a 32x and a power base converter for me, got them out until I arrived and asked only for $40 for the lot.

Nope I have to wait until Thursday. It gives me good time in between to fix a broken hose in my car that forces me to fill it with a gallon of water every single time I drive it. :(
