Don't.

My best friend has been through 8 PS2s since launch. A warantee has covered most of them. He doesn't care for them like newborns, but he doesn't mangle them either. If a system can't operate without monthly internal cleanings (which void your coverage), then it should not have been made.

Give it time -- nobody can afford/wants one right now, so that's why you haven't heard anything....

You're right. which is why I'm biding my time. I'm not really waiting for a price drop, seeing as that is next to impossible from what I hear, but I would like one before Sony decides to make the US consoles like they made the European ones...

I've had a PSP before and know what they can do, and the PS3 is set up similarly. I'd love to put custom firmware on that behemoth and see what it can do emulation wise. I'm into computers as well and will eventually have a blu-ray burner. I'd love to have NES, Master System, Genesis, SNES, Sega CD, 32X, Nintendo 64, Saturn (I'm dreaming), Dreamcast and good PSX support through emulation on it.

hmm, well. ive had my xbox360 since august and it gets heavy use daily. i also modded it. since using backups now, 360 still works fine and still gets daily usage time due to xbl. ALTHOUGH! i swapped out the internal fan for dual fans.

The only system to ever fail on me was my NES. I also still have a working PS2 purchased in January <insert year> after launch. It has lived through 3 modchip installs; 2 uninstalls. Alot of dvd-rips played on it before dvd burners were affordable.
Still runs perfect today.

I'm hoping you read the rest of my post, because it wasn't my intention. I was merely making a point of what some people like to do in a situation like this.

My summary was this: He just had shitty luck. Don't freak.

To clarify, the "Don't freak" part was directed at him, not you Moz. :P

my first nes when i was still a kid, played the hell out of mario the first month till the nes stopped working, warranty got me a new one. a snes after like 5years of usage died on me. as for sony, my launch jap playstation died on me the first year. 3 more psx afterwards died on me. ive gone thru 4 playstation 2's. the first 2 were never modded but were opened, sony replaced them for a small fee. the later 2 were modded, just used the working internal parts to fix other systems. also, i do take care of my systems. they just get tons of usage. seems everyone has bad luck with sony's hardware.
