Well thats why I added that clause "If you cannot update, we'll find out soon enough"
My sister bought a legit game that required her to update to play it. Thankfully, her CFW was old enough that she could update to the official without a hitch. I know for a fact that the newer CFWs block updating to a official FW, but there is no harm in trying to do so, it'll just tell you that you caannot update.
Aside from eboot backups and such like that, there is nothing that binds a specific card to a specific PSP. Everything can be transfered to and from the card, so there is no reason to hunt down the original card. Only reason you'd ever need a specific card is if you have a failsafe pandora installer. I essentially took a 256 MB card and set it up to be ready for any softmod. This is out of my preference to avoid losing save data during a flashing process.
