That sounds pretty neat, it would be great for retail discs so you don't have to rip, patch, burn them.

Yeah I use it for my genuine PS1 imports. Works every time. However, oddly enough it won't work for copies. Don't know why that is. For copies I have to patch the region before I burn them.
