Re: IDE/ATA => anything else
Just set the drives manually. The one on the end should be master and the one in the middle should be slave.

Re: IDE/ATA => anything else
That is untrue. You need compatible cables in order to use cable select. Otherwise, you'll have to set the drives as master and slave. Older 40 conductor IDE cables will not work with cable select. I have tried, and got the same results as vlame (drives showing up as corrupt). Apparently you can cut pin 28 between the two drives and use a 40 conductor cable for cable select, but I've never tried that. The newer 80 conductor cables will work with cable select.Niode wrote:All PATA wires have cable select...vlame wrote:hmm i just bought 3 IDE133 wires, and they don't connect to my hdds correctly. one shows up as corrupt when i connect 2 and they only work with my ROMS.

Most newer cables will be color coded with the blue and black connectors, those you know for sure are cable select.
Re: IDE/ATA => anything else
I thought they all cable select on pin 28? Oh well.

Flash is still more expensive than SATA/PATA. Is USB3.0 going to be faster than SATA? Maybe it will make sense to install OS on Flash and have other files on magnetic media.vlame wrote:well yeah, why not boot from a huge CF flash drive?Pulsar_t wrote:I'm waiting for SSD's to become affordable![]()

SSDs need to come down in price eventually. How long do you reckon before 1TB of SSD = $200? Hopefully not too many moons!
