Got a reply back from Ace on Sega-16.
This doesn't work as well to figure out a TMSS Genesis Model 1 apart from a non-TMSS Genesis Model 1. The casing with the 2-tone Genesis logo and TM was used not only on non-TMSS units, but also the earliest VA6 Genesis Model 1s with TMSS(I have a dead VA6 that came with that casing, and, sure enough, it has TMSS).
