The Definitive Versions of the Classic Final Fantasy's.
Re: The Definitive Versions of the Classic Final Fantasy's.
What were the differences between the ps1 versions of FF 1 and 2 and the Psp anniversary editions of FF1 and 2? Are there even any? I considered buying origins for the sake of completing my FF collection, but I'm currently playing FF 1 on the psp.

I heard that the PSP version had a higher random encounter rate.

Final fantasy - PSP best visual and bonus dungeons
Final Fantasy II - PSP best visuals and bonus dungeons
Final Fantasy III - DS (I don't think there is another way to play in English)
Final Fantasy IV - GBA I heard the DS ones good also but different
Final Fantasy V - GBA
Final Fantasy VI - SNES the GBA one looks almost the same so just get the original
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Good choice.Veno wrote:Really? I thought that I could come to like her.
Well, anyway, so FF4 was considered incomplete as FF2 on SNES, since things were changed and missing. PS1 gave them back, but was marred by loading times. So I'm guessing the definitive is the GBA? Good thing I'm playing it now.
I'm not sure about the music, but if you don't have a usb adapter or pad it can kind of cheapen the experience. Then again, if that sort of thing doesn't bother you than I'd go for it.Veno wrote:For FF5, PS1 was a mess, and currently, I'm liking the GBA port, but I was really curious if translating the SNES version would be better, because it has better music.
Once again, I can't really comment on the music (but FF6 did have most of my favorite music form the series, so I wouldn't want to miss out on that), but if you got your hands on a gameboy player that would solve your resolution issues. I prefer the SNES version, but I'm also frequently subject to nostalgia, so consider that.[/quote]Veno wrote:I've only tried FF6 on GBA, but I think the SNES might be better, because of a bigger scaled screen and better music.
Well, if you want to just cruise through the game for the experience, then I would suggest the GBA or PSP versions. They're notably easier than their original counterpart.Veno wrote:Edit- How could I forget again? I've never been able to beat FF1 on the NES, or never had the patience. I'm not sure which version I should go with.

Consider also that GBA's FF6 fixes some bugs of the original version. I would prefer it just for that.

90% of my gaming time is spent on a Game Boy Player ran thru a 15" widescreen LCD monitor. In my opinion, the GBA games look amazing. I think that's where my GBA-love comes from, cuz it's sort of like seeing my old SNES games only better.

Yeah, the gameboy player really contributes to the experience. It essentially does away with my primary complaint about the GBA. Too bad the DS can't do the same thing...noiseredux wrote:90% of my gaming time is spent on a Game Boy Player ran thru a 15" widescreen LCD monitor. In my opinion, the GBA games look amazing. EXACTLY. It is my contention that the Game Boy Player is basically the best console ever released. GB, GBC, and GBA library all on a tv (or in my case monitor) rather than handheld. Amazing.

Wow, awesome. I can't believe that I've been with FF all these years, yet I've never dug around to see how I can play the better versions. Thanks guys.
And that Gameboy Player seems really interesting. I'd say the GBA version of FFVI might win if it fixes some glitches and can still upscale and look better.
