How did you forget shooters? This is the Dreamcast we're talking about.

Along that route, I'd rather recommend a stick, since it's really what shooters and fighting games are meant to be played on. The Agetec Dreamcast stick really is a fine stick for the price. I personally prefer arcade buttons and sticks (Seimitsu and Sanwa), but it's still quite nice if it can be found for a decent price (they're becoming scarce).

I Wish I had a Saturn to DC converter, the Saturn 3D Pad is pretty similar to the DC controller, but I think it feels a bit better in my hands and the D pad is a lot better which would be good for fighting games....but i have the Virtua Stick so I would pretty much use that. But for everything else I would probably use the Saturn 3D pad

Yeah the DC controller isn't great. But as long as you aren't being forced to use the d pad it's passable. Having the analog triggers was amazing back when it was the only console with them.
Nowadays I just use a arcade stick with a psx adapter all the time on mine. It's really rare for me to play a game that doesn't work with it well.

Keep in mind that there were at least two different runs of Dreamcast controllers. Earlier ones were made in Japan and the rest were made in Indonesia (I think).

The Japanese ones, though the same shape and size, have a much more responsive dpad, analog stick and buttons - making them very usable and comfortable for extended periods of play.

The others are poorly made. The dpad usually develops an unresponsive "left" and the analog stick develops a central "dead zone" early in the controller's life. The buttons are responsive enough but they are loose and cheap feeling. The triggers begin to stick when they are pressed in all of the way.

I have about 20 different dreamcast controllers from different manufacturers.
The Pelican Dream Shock controllers might be the best controller on the dreamcast system.
They are slightly bigger than the official controllers, have a sturdier analog stick that has an indention in it rather than a bubble, the D-pad is easily the best of the dreamcast controllers (it is circular and rocks in a 360 manner) Not only that, the Pelican dream shock has built in Dual Rumble like the ps2 controllers.
The controller on the top of the picture is made by NUBY. This freaking thing looks like it sucks, but it also is one of the better controllers available for the dreamcast. I was just testing one of them out and I really like it. Has the nice D-pad, a strong analog, and the feel is rather good. The Nuby has built in rumble as well, but only 1 motor. (not a dual)

The Mad Catz controller has the best D-pad hands down of the dreamcast controllers. Also this controller is a bit wider. Mad Catz has a 6 button lay out, and a pretty nice analog stick too. (easily one of the best if not best DC controllers)

I threw the Naki controller in the pic as well. The Naki is allright. Not as good as the others but it is wider and more comfortable than the regular DC controller. Has a decent D-pad and good analog.
