Well, first of all, SCART is actually not a single video signal, it is technically multiple signals all squished together. You can get composite, S-video, CrCbY, PrPbY, and RGB from it. Oh, and technically I believe the SCART standard is only able to carry over interlaced RGB, which technically make sit inferior to component, usually called PrPbY. If you want to use it racket, you need to get an adapter that converts the signal to some other form, usu component or VGA. here is a thread I found on the intarweb about this!

Hope that helps you
Oh, also be forewarned! DO NOT UN PLUG AND PLUG AN SCART CABLE WHILE IT IS RECEIVING A SIGNAL! Reason? It has a dedicated power wire in it, so doing so could damage your equipment
So only unplug or plug it when the saturn is off.

So thats why my british friend passed out when I put those SCART cables near his genitals while he was sleeping...

That thread says nothing about only being able to carry only interlaced signalling on SCART. The interlaced signalling is dependant on the console... not on the cable. The wires of the cable merely plug into pins on the jack in the back of the system that go to the actual chip that encodes the signals into what ever form they were made to do it as.
The progressive or interlaced choice is made by the software on the Sega Saturn. There probably is a list of what formats each game is put out in (the Seag Saturn supports all the way up to EDTV which is 480p on the saturn (EDTV also does 576p)). So the cable doesn't matter... it is merely the Saturn and programmers choice.
As for your SCART cables, the Asian and the Europe ones are very similar in that they both contain RGB (except some value versions of EU SCART cables, which don't use all the pins, called composite or lite SCART). So make sure you know which type you are getting so a EU guy doesn't end up buying JP/China cables and can't use them on his/her TV.
RGB SCART is the only place you can go (with out building your own set of RGB cables) for the highest quality video from your Saturn and most consoles from the Saturn/PSX times and before. Some consoles (like NES and SNES) don't support RGB with out internal mods.
Here is the actual pin out of EU SCART:
Pin 1 Audio output (right)
Pin 2 Audio input (right)
Pin 3 Audio output (left)
Pin 4 Audio ground
Pin 5 Blue ground/Chroma input ground
Pin 6 Audio input (left)
Pin 7 Blue/Chroma input
Pin 8 Widescreen function switching
Pin 9 Green ground
Pin 10 D²B input
Pin 11 Green
Pin 12 D²B output
Pin 13 Red ground/Chroma ground
Pin 14 D²B ground
Pin 15 Red/Chroma
Pin 16 Fast switching
Pin 17 Composite video output ground/Sync output ground/
Luminance output ground
Pin 18 Composite video input ground/Sync input ground/
Fast switching ground/Luminance input ground
Pin 19 Composite video output/Sync output/
Luminance output
Pin 20 Composite video input/Sync input/
Luminance input
Pin 21 Common ground
Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART for more info on SCART pinouts and other fun stuff I guess.
Only an assumption.. but us Americans probably never got SCART merely because composite and RGB SCART 'look' identical physically. This would cause confusion with us lame/stupid Americans.

dude, I never said anything about the link saying stuff about it being interlaced or whatnot. The link was merely there to help him find converters and such.
And I have not seen anything saying you can get 480p out of an SCART RGB cable(the YbYrC is technically unofficial). Also, I don't think the saturn can handle 480p, I didn't think it would have enough memory to produce such an image...
Where are you getting the idea that composite cables look like SCART RGB cables? Pics or links plz? And I agree that everyone thinks we are lame/stupid, just take puck-man for example
And I don't believe there is a difference in Asian and EU scart cables...I mean, unless the pins and wires aren't connected the sameway, in which, link plz?

i never said composite cables look like scart cables. I said that there are composite scart cables. ones that don't utilize RGB, but instead composite/Svid standards. Notice how my pinout description I posted had / symbols in it for different pins. That means on some versions it is one thing, but on others it is another.
Secondly... yes the Saturn can handle 480p... look it up. i could give you sources, but I don't think Wikipedia is legitimate enough and there are tons of googled websites you can get and I don't have any technical data sheets to upload or know where the pdf files could be found on the internet.
EU and Asian SCARTS aren't both SCART the Asian one is called something different. They look identical, but the pin out is different... as I SAID.

Sure.

Oh wait what is this

Ya, I wouldn't quote wikipedia on that, considering someone said the SS was capable of HDTV and on some of the video forums people said some of the SS had 16:9 asect ratios lol. w/e, i'll take your word for it, considering I like 480p, so why would I not want it...
dude. chill. so it is exactly what I thought based on what you said.EU and Asian SCARTS aren't both SCART the Asian one is called something different. They look identical, but the pin out is different... as I SAID.
