Re: overpricing games
The sad thing is that all these poser collectors, and douchebags that feel the need to smash their old stuff and put videos of it up online aren't helping make our hobby any cheaper.

Re: overpricing games
people seem to bid games up to beyond what they're worth on ebay all the time, so I'm not surprised retro stores take advantage of these collectors that are willing to blow tons of money on a single game, bumping it's estimated value up even more.
Re: overpricing games
Yesterday at an anime convention, I found a guy selling Silent Hill. A used copy, obviously a bit beat up, with some wear and tear.
The price? $280.00 Dear God.

Re: overpricing games
Wow. Yeah, I very rarely get games at anime cons, unless it's from a good vendor. (Mad Gear was at last years AWA, and I picked up Prikura Daisakusen for a really good price.) They always seem to overcharge. I found a copy of Nights for $100. I couldn't freaking believe it, and the guy selling it acted like it was a decent price. He was also selling Magic Knight Rayearth and Shining the Holy Ark for $150 a piece. They were all in good condition, but not new. No way would they demand such a price.
Re: overpricing games
The really funny thing about it? He also had Suikoden 2. $200.00
Still less than Silent Hill.

Re: overpricing games
I guess I'm pretty lucky- most of the people around where I live seem to know the values of things... which is probably why the job lot of SNES games I got from a charity shop (cost me £5, came with some games I wanted and about 20 copies of Shaq Fu) will never shift. Not that it matters, I plan to sell them to pretentious hipsters and/or idiots who want a "piece of gaming history" over craig's list or something.
Edit- for the record, the games I wanted were games like Zelda and R-type, so £5 for a few decent-ish games was worth the torture of having all these unsellable copies of Shaq Fu.

7k you going to AWA this year? If so we should do lunch.
Carlson sold me a Super Famicom carrying case for $20 and it is the perfect N64 game carrying case.

There's on annoying shop out here in Seattle where the owner doesn't put price tags on any of the games. You go up to the counter and ask him how much they cost, then you have to wait for him to search for the average prices on e-bay and amazon before he tells you how much it is going to cost. He has an amazing collection of just about every rare game there is, but you have to pay out the ass for any of them.

Re: overpricing games
ebay prices aren't always too bad, as long as he skips shipping should be ok sometimes. At least you guys have a retro game shop in seattle. There is no wild at all in miami apparently I've been looking for awhile.J T wrote:There's on annoying shop out here in Seattle where the owner doesn't put price tags on any of the games.
