I thought so too at first, but I can assure you it isn't required. It's definitely not easy the first few times, but it is possible to do it without the powerup - when I completed it with the good ending, I fortunately managed to make that jump without a powerup in one go.Mr.White555 wrote:Some parts of the game seem like you NEED that jumping power up(water level) which seems ridiculous to me since you should be able to beat the game without those.
On that note, despite what many people say, powerups are not required to beat the last boss - I've managed to beat him without a single powerup. This might be because I've mastered the double jump and can do it everytime without fail.
My main issue with the game is the need for memorization. I don't find that appealing in any game. The water level particularly requires memorization - or just doing a shuriken throw everytime you jump.
The need for memorization and the fact that it was so slow put me off this game at first, but one day when I was tired and needed to stay awake, I popped in Revenge of Shinobi to keep me occupied, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nonetheless I'm not sure I'd list it as a favourite.
Nice review, by the way.
