NES Zapper CRT HDTV question.

Post by dumboguy »

I recently hooked up my old NES to my Hitachi 51" HDTV. Unlike most out there my TV is not an LCD or Plasma. In fact it uses CRT projection technology like all the old tvs. I am well aware of the incompatibility of standard light guns with LCD and Plasma technologies. My question is do light guns work with CRT HDTVs? From my limited understanding they should because it all has to do with the CRT method of drawing the screen. I have tried playing Duck Hunt and it actually kind of works but only when I hold the gun right up to the TV and even then it only occasionally works. Are zappers incompatible with this setup in general or is there something wrong with my zapper or settings. I have the NES hooked up through standard RCA composite connectors and my television has the option of running standard definition content in either a 540p mode or a 1080i mode. Any help is appreciated.
