Wii-U thoughts so far
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
So it comes down to whether the scaler is better in the U or your TV.

I'm actually not sure if it is the console upscaling or the TV, but I doubt it would output 480p via HDMI, a lot of modern TVs cannot accept a 480p signal via HDMI.Ziggy587 wrote:I've only used the vWii a few times... Does it upscale to whatever the U's settings are? Or does it just use the Wii's native 480p?

What? That's crazy. If your TV doesn't accept 480p over HDMI then you got ripped off and your TV sucks.ninjainspandex wrote:I'm actually not sure if it is the console upscaling or the TV, but I doubt it would output 480p via HDMI, a lot of modern TVs cannot accept a 480p signal via HDMI.Ziggy587 wrote:I've only used the vWii a few times... Mine does but when I was looking at reviews of those monoprice VGA to HDMI converters many people had issues with the fact that since it was just converting the signal and not upscaling it first people would get a signal not supported, I actually get that signal on my insignia TV when it try to do 240p via component video.Ziggy587 wrote:What? Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Well a TV not accepting 240p over component is some entirely different, and I can understand it. But a TV not accepting 480p over HDMI is just bonkers. More like the problem was with the VGA converter, and people were just wrongly blaming their TVs.ninjainspandex wrote:Mine does but when I was looking at reviews of those monoprice VGA to HDMI converters many people had issues with the fact that since it was just converting the signal and not upscaling it first people would get a signal not supported, I actually get that signal on my insignia TV when it try to do 240p via component video.

In case there's any doubt: yes, the Wii U can output 480P via HDMI. I switch to it often so I can force the Wii mode (aka vWii) in to 4:3 aspect ratio for certain original Wii games.

It might have sold out from Nintendo's store, but anyone from the UK, do NOT buy those overpriced pre-orders from Ebay sellers who mass pre-ordered the limited physical copies of Project Zero Maiden of Black Water (Fatal Frame 5). I nearly bit the bullet and paid £90 for one and I'm glad I didn't.
Game.co.uk are now offering pre-orders. It's exclusive to Game, so it's the only other place you'll be able to get it for a fair price. It'll be limited again, so get it quick.

Super Mario Maker comes out a week from this Friday! Anyone else as interested in this as I am? This is by FAR my most anticipated Wii U game yet. Let me put it this way: I would have bought the console for this game alone.
Here's why I KNOW that I'm gonna love it:
So, who else is anticipating Mario Maker?

Yes, I used to this too!!! I used to try and design my own Mario, Sonic and original 2D platform games. I used to spend hours drawing on A4 sheets of paper, outlining all the ideas for worlds, levels and trying to draw all the levels and different routes.Ziggy587 wrote:Also, as I kid, I use to draw my own over world maps and levels. Yeah, I've always wanted to make my own 2D platforming games.
I am incredibly psyched and excited for Mario Maker. Mostly for the same reasons as you.
