Amazon and price charting.com glitch?

Post by Soldier Blue »

So there's some random seller on amazon that is listing everything for $12,495.01. He has done it for 6 PS2 games and one game for the Sega Saturn called Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Iron and Blood which actually never saw a release. This is a problem because on pricecharting it will say that the game is going for that amount.

So apparently he has that Saturn game and 6 other super rare PS2 games that never saw release.
The PS2 games being:

A Sound of Thunder
Classified: The Sentinel Crisis
ESPN Winter X Games: Snocross Racing
Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension
Hunting Unlimited 2 Other
Knights of the Temple II

Just some crazy guy or what? Any thoughts?

I believe they have a pretty easy system for reporting fraudulent listings and sale prices on VGPC so it's not really a problem. As for his pricing if they truly are prototypes he can charge whatever he wants really the things only have as much value as people are willing to pay for them. I highly doubt he will get his asking price, but he is most likely just fishing for offers that is if he isn't just making fake listings for shits and giggles.

Well, it isn't a "glitch". Price-charting pulls data directly from Amazon - so when there are no other sellers and no other copies on ebay / amazon; it's going to give you that price. It's always been like that. Occasionally something like a prototype will sell and the filters won't distinguish and things like Zelda Majora's Mask will be listed for $400 for a few days until enough sales and listings get back in the system to bring the price back to "normal".

In this case - no idea where his prices are from. He has 20+ games all for $150+ - he is selling stuff, so either someone is messing with his account today; or he's willing to put crazy prices on stuff in hopes someone will buy.

Maybe he had debt of exactly $12,495.01 and needed to pay it off?

This is one of the things I dislike most about their pricing system -- it looks at asking prices, not sold prices. When I compile values, I mostly look at eBay completed auction prices. I'll also factor in Amazon prices of items with lots of listings.
