He could find someone who's putting together a Michael Jackson costume for Halloween and steal the other glove.

If it's a keg party, you will meet mostly everyone if you are the "Pump Man". Sit next to the keg and pump the beer for everyone. You're like the Nitro balloon guy but without the creepy vibe.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I suck at parties. I have trouble getting into and keeping up conversations. I can always find a couple of people to keep it up with, but never enough to really feel like I made any connections. Blegh.
The way I met one of my best friends during college was by going to a party where the only person I knew was my then-time girlfriend, who seemed to no everyone there. I sat down at an empty table, drew a deck of cards out of my pocket and started shuffling. One by one, people started sitting down and joining in on various card games.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF! If you are shuffling feet and look like you aren't having fun, people will avoid you. If socializing isn't your thing, don't go to parties. However if you do want to have more fun and meet more people it is as easy as walking up to a group of people, sticking your hand out and saying "Hi, my name's Luke (or your name, but Luke works for me), I don't think we've met". Then they tell you their name and you talk about who you know at the party and then you just made a pal. And more than likely once you meet one person, they'll introduce you to someone else.
Or don't.
When I started college I knew one person from my high school who went to the same University, and lived with my Sister in an apartment and not a dorm. I knew basically no one. But as soon as registration was over I had already met a bunch of new and great people.
Smile, introduce yourself, and you'll have a swarm of friends.

Well, that would be how I introduce myself since my name is Luke.Luke wrote: However if you do want to have more fun and meet more people it is as easy as walking up to a group of people, sticking your hand out and saying "Hi, my name's Luke (or your name, but Luke works for me), I don't think we've met".
But I am doing everything pretty similar to what you are suggesting. I guess I should be more specific- I can get guys to talk to me no problem, none of the girls will. I'm not looking to hookup, or date, or anything, I just want to talk to other people than I've already met at the party. Last night's was originally intended to be a mixer for people to get to know new people, and that went down the shitter real quick. I ended up spending most of my time talking to my roommates or doing shots with the Norwegian foreign exchange student. Cool dude though.
EDIT:
NVM, forget parties. I can probably figure that out. Clubs? Screw those, how anybody gets anything out of that mangled mess of hot sweaty bodies and wannabe Schwarzenegger bounces is not something I can understand. Having that girl tease me all night didn't help either.

I rock the Van Dyke facial hair typically, but I'm planning on doing Lebowski for Dragoncon, so I was growing the beard out a bit wider these last few weeks I've been off work. Decided to do a test run today after getting home from Dave's since I'm headed out to the bar... I think I like it but I'm not sure (no pics, in my car now)
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

While I have not known very many people who went to prison, or at least have not known them before and after, the ones I do were extremely thin upon release.TSTR wrote:Guess he's about to gain that weight back on a starchy prison diet. Smile: PAX weekend!
Frown/smile: Turns out power went out at my house around noon on Saturday. There was a pretty big windstorm and my town is full of trees, so we tend to get power outages when shit affects the trees. This one was really bad and took down a good chunk of the town. I got back to my house around 10 pm and went to bed, figuring it'd be up again when I woke up. It wasn't up when I woke up to go to the next day of PAX, and while I was at the grocery store to get something to drink (it was one of the few places with power) that's when I found out that the power went out around noonish. Which means that if this had been a normal weekend I would have been without power for approximately 24 hours. Then I had to find recharge points inside PAX since my phone was on a 1/3 charge. So I guess the smile is that I didn't get screwed and was out of the house for most of the outage.
Smile: My new windows are done! And it looks like the final couple were put in after the power went out. Good on the installers to finish up in the face of adversity.
