Quality aftermarket gear

I'm curious to know how everyone feels about aftermarket consoles, controllers and accessories. Which company has what good products?

For example I have a couple tomee n64 controllers that I think are fantastic, but I've seen tomee genesis 6 button controllers in stores and they look like junk.

On a side note are the hyperkin 6 button controllers for genesis any good?

The only third party company who reliably makes good controllers is Hori in my opinion.

The only time I ever trusted third party and really thought it was well made was the stuff ASCII made in the 16bit era such as the ASCII Pad and Super Advantage for SNES. The Capcom pad soldier for fighting games was very solid too. After that, there was that Agetek done Dreamcast arcade joystick I really enjoyed too when I had that system.

Beyond that I've fairly well mostly avoided stuff, but when it has come across my path in ownership other things have fairly well sucked. There was this one N64 pad I was told was nice, didn't take the battarang shape, had the dpad and stick to the left, but I never got it.

I did have a couple of Tomee SNES pads in the last couple years, they're awful and super super flimsy, any impacts intentional or not seem to do some damage.

I own a lot of ASCII joysticks. They're good, not great in my opinion.

Speaking of joysticks, I feel obliged to mention that Mad Catz has improved their arcade hardware in the last few years. Ten or fifteen years ago I used to avoid Mad Catz like the plague. Sometime around five or six years ago, Mad Catz started producing quality joysticks.

Got a chance to test the Hyperkin 6-Button Genesis controller and have to say I'm very surprised. It doesn't creak like my official controller and the buttons feel as good as the Sega 3-button controller. Very happy with the purchase!

Good to hear. I pulled one out the package at the store and was surprised by the quality. I'll have to pick one up. The tomee ones x y z buttons are floppy.

The controllers that come with retro duos are cheap as well. I remember not using them but a month and then the buttons just stopped working.

I seem to remember seeing that one. It's an odd shape, but I suppose no more odd than a regular 64 controller

Damn that sucks. Guess I'll just pay the extra and get an official one. I'm afraid the same thing will befall the n64s I got.
