Interesting. So what I might do is go by the Metacritic list, always starting from the top. And always including the excluded. I think this might be an interesting experiment to see how far I'd make it down the list, say by the end of the year. Then the end of next year and so on. But like you said, I'll always start at #1 and work down to make sure I'm hitting any game that's added to the list. Hmm...

Let me put my snob hat for a bit

When it comes down to it, I can't help but think that the PC Gamer list has too many games that...well, aren't that great even from a mainstream point of view. Most people actively hated Grand Theft Auto IV and Doom 3 and I think one would be extremely hard-pressed to consider Batman: Arkham Asylum one of the best games ever made much less the original Command & Conquer. I don't know, I think that it's going to be a bad experience even if your tastes align with the mainstream.

Metacritic's list is not what I personally would consider great but it seems less silly and it's easier to take out the mediocre games from it.

yeah I've decided to go w/ the Metacritic list starting from the top. And again, I'm not aiming to beat all these games. If I'm really into the game, sure. But I'm more than ok with saying "y'know what? After a couple of hours I still hate this game, but now I've at least played it long enough to have an opinion on it."

hmm, so Mega Man Legacy Collection came out w/ a whisper. I know we've talked about this already - the lack of 7 & 8 (and 9 and 10 for that matter), but... I'm probably still gonna end up getting this. Or rather, I'm still getting this at some point.
I did not even know of this coming out. Gonna wait for physical release to keep from buying twice though. Is there any real compelling reason to buy rather than just play my carts on the Retron5 though? Did they do anything to them? A save system and no passwords at least?

these aren't just the NES games, they're actual remakes using a new engine. I'm guessing there is saves since it says it supports Steam Cloud.

Also:
FEATURES

Six classic games in one – Play a piece of video game history with the original six Mega Man games and experience the origins of the classic series.
8-bit style with HD flair – The games retain their retro 8-bit style with an added HD finish, giving a crisp, clean look to the charming, classic sprites.
Challenge remix mode for new and veteran players – The robust new Challenge Mode remixes gameplay from all six games for a new type of challenge. It provides both increasingly difficult trials for experienced players and also teaches newcomers to become familiar with the style of the games and tackle some of the trickier areas.
Museum of the era – The Museum Mode features a massive repository of history and art collected from the era of the games in this collection. Take a look back at the history of Mega Man with loads of information, high-res art, concept pieces, sketches and more in the Museum.
Developed with an all-new engine – Using the newly developed Eclipse Engine, Capcom and Digital Eclipse are able to archive these six pieces of video game history with faithful reproductions of the originals for a new generation of gamers.
Leaderboards and video replays – Fans will be able to watch video replays of the top players on the leaderboards, showcasing a whole new generation of Mega Man talent!

Agreed.

What are you smoking? Arkham Asylum is an amazing Batman simulator; it recalls all those times when you watch Batman: The Animated Series and the mooks and wandering around trying to find Batman, and then he pounces on them one after another. And the original C&C is awesome. It definitely deserves to be on a top 100. Now, I will agree that having original C&C but not StarCraft is insane, but that's because both should be on it.

What are YOU smoking? Pretty sure the answer is "nothing".

GTA IV is fine, DOOM3 is a lot of fun. I don't remember any hate for Doom3, but following up San Andreas was an uphill battle for sure.

I'd strike the term "Batman simulator" from the discussion. AA is a great game, but that is like calling Red Dead Redemption a "Cowboy simulator".

Amen brother. Batman: AA is a great game. It's compact in a way that a lot of modern 3rd person action games are not, but then again, most 3rd person action games are overly-padded collect-a-thons these days.

Doom 3 wasn't bad, just kind of boring after a while.

The problem with Doom 3 is they named it Doom 3.

Even if you didn't hate Doom 3, it definitely doesn't deserve being in the top 100
