I agree. And not just because of all the shitty games and difficulty in exploring the market place. Just how slow it is alone is really annoying.

The marketplace sucks, the client is slow, and Valve responds to requests at a glacial pace.

Steam has good features, but it does look its age. Sadly, given Valve's lack of responsiveness since, well, ever, I don't anything is going to change.

Probably the same thing they've always done, buying the rights to mods and releasing them as stand alone games. Or just putting the money into e sports to get more players to buy things in free to play games since that's where the money is at now.

So, has anyone else been trying out GOG Galaxy? It got pushed into open beta a few days ago.

It's definitely not perfect, has a few kinks and problems to work out. I've even heard of some people having their save games automatically deleted upon integrating those games with Galaxy. It's also missing a slew of features that people were hoping for or expecting, but hey, it's still beta.

So far, I'm kind of impressed that it works at all. I've loved GOG for a long time now, and the only thing that I ever considered a large upside to Steam was the fact that games automatically update themselves to the latest versions. It's quicker and completely painless when a Steam game I own get's a new patched released, not so much for a game I have on GOG.

But now that's all gonna turn around. I've already had the pleasure of watching Galaxy automatically install updates for two of the games I own. Though I've also had the displeasure of seeing it mess up when trying to install a few games, forcing me to redo the entire installation and waste a lot of time.

...but ya know, still in beta. Can't wait for the release version.

For Aussies it sucks. They recently converted The Witcher 2 to a gimped out Australian version. Also the AU version does not work on GOG Galaxy.

The two were on sale on Steam for less than $5 for the pair, so I jumped ship.

This is good news, the digital market needs more competition and GoG is the only distributor that not only doesn't directly attack the rights of the consumer, but the only one that keeps them in high regard.

I don't really have many GoG games right now, but they are my preferred choice if no physical version is available.

The first big updated is here, so we are at GOG Galaxy 1.1.

Rollback so you can undo game updates and restore previous versions.

Improved Friends List so you can find and invite friends easily.

Pause & Resume Downloads in case something happens.

Extended Pre-Install Options to allow greater configuration for games.

Improved UI because why not?

Less Resource-Intensive and Overall Faster because it needed it.
