PS3 sold well overall, sure. If you consider it in relative terms, however, it's not even close to touching the PS2's numbers, and still has a bit to go just to match the PS1.
Also figure how the previous generation compared, with Sony going from absolutely dominant with the PS2 versus the XBox and Gamecube, to, at this point, seeing the PS3 barely squeak over the 360 globally, and both being behind the Wii.
Things went from overwhelmingly Sony, to probably the most balanced split the market has ever had - though certainly not as cut and dried as that if you look in more detail (repurchased 360s to replaced RRoD ones, very different domestic split with the 360 out front, etc).
Either way, to me, it seems like the PS3 didn't succeed to the same level that the PS1 and PS2 did. Sony seeing that they actually needed to compete served to improve the product, and the PS4's sales reflect that too.
I see a lot of the same thing with MS - responding to market feedback, focusing on games, etc.

Re: The PS4 thread
So, what's anybody actually doing with their PS4 these days?
I think I might get on Destiny in a larger way with that new expansion. Need to update my system though.
I refunded my MGS V PC purchase - it'll be better for me on PS4; as much as I like aiming with a mouse the framerate on my laptop just isn't pleasing. I'll take the 60.
Persona 5 is supposed to be coming out this winter. Hopefully.
But for now my PS4 is sitting in the box as it has been for... quite some time.

Re: The PS4 thread
For the first year and a half of owning the PS4, it was just sitting there most of the time.
Recently, I've been playing it a bit more, the addition of media streaming has been nice as well as better HDMI-CEC integration.
I still think something like Chromecast with a good tablet beats the media abilities of the PS4, just from a usability standpoint, but it's definitely some of the best on the console side of things.
Mostly, there's just been an influx of PS4 versions of games at my local library, so I've just been messing with those more. Also consider the fact that modern PC releases are still being messed up.
I still haven't used the PS4 as heavily as I used my PS3 when I first got it, and the way things are looking I probably won't be using it as heavily as I've used my Wii U so far, either.
I can also say, there's a few design choices with how PS4 does things that I'm really not happy about. Most of which revolve around the installation necessity. (Though, stored data is handled better than on PS3)

Not a lot. I imported Yakuza 0, which I'm having fun with, despite the language barrier. I'm also quite enjoying Rocket League, which is fun in short spurts.
I'm mostly looking forward to Persona 5.

Re: The PS4 thread
I just got my PS4, so I've been playing Bloodborne.
Aside from that, I pre-ordered the limited edition of Disgaea 5 recently, so I'll definitely be playing that when it hits.
Currently looking for cheapo copies Omega Quintet, Oneechanbara Z2 and Godzilla (very cheap in the case of Godzilla...), as they're about the only third party PS4 exclusives I can think of aside from Disgaea 5 and the digital-only N++. Anybody else know of other third party PS4 exclusives?

Re: The PS4 thread
A friend of mine recently got a PS4 and I saw it today.
They did a subtle redesign! Physical buttons and no glossy plastic (thank goodness!). I swear his is also quieter.
Weird.
Speaking of which he gave me his Last of Us code (he has bandwidth caps like I do so IDK why he bothered giving it to me). If any of you want it shoot me a PM.

I finished the last mission on Violent difficulty with a V rank in Onechanbara Z2 Chaos. Still admiring what they did with the trophy icon layout for this game, which I've never seen any other video game do
I'm running through the PS4 port of Journey with random players and re-acquiring all the same trophies from the PS3 version.
I pre-ordered Mad Max
I'm playing Deception 4: Nightmare Princess.
I'm looking to get The Walking Dead Season 2 as part of the flash sale.
I'm waiting patiently for the following (Besides Mad Max):
Until Dawn
Zombie Vikings
Also playing some retro stuff on my SNES/Genesis

also I just got my $25 credit from buying a vita at launch so what download only titles should I consider picking up. prefer something that is download only release and exclusive to the ps4.

Re: The PS4 thread
I finally "get" Souls games I think.
After butting my head against Bloodborne for a few hours now and finally getting to the first boss.
Super fun but that learning curve is insanely unforgiving.
Until Dawn looks kind of neat. I'm not much for horror though.
