Re: Just got an XRGB Mini...
Holy carp. Yeah that sounds like a pain in the rear. The toro box is $80... and DC definitely isn't my favorite system... so I'll likely be using other answers for DC, at least for a while. I have plenty of other projects to tend to first.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Re: Just got an XRGB Mini...
Well I was probably making it out to sound a lot worse than it actually is just because I'm annoyed that it isn't working.
I checked my cable over after I got home from work. Everything is definitely wired up right. The audio works, without any crackling or buzzing/humming. The picture is stable on the screen, so I know that the sync is working. It's just that the picture has a red hue to it, like G or B isn't connected. But R, G and B are all connected, no shorts, and to the right pins. So IDK, I'm at a loss. Might be a bad cable, since the VGA cable I used wasn't brand new.
::sigh::
$80 is more than I would spend on it. I'd sooner just get an RGB SCART cable and be limited to 240p/480i. In fact, that doesn't sound like too bad of an idea...

Re: Just got an XRGB Mini...
^ Very interesting. I've had the Hanzo and Kenzei for about a year, and always used them with the Mini, but for some reason, maybe a couple months ago, I started to notice a slight green bias in the white balance with this setup. I took it all apart, dusted some stuff, and checked some pins, then put it together and got a slight red/yellow bias. If I take the VGA output directly from the Hanzo to the VGA input on my TV, I don't see any issues with the white balance, though. I've been thinking about getting the Toro recently, mostly to consolidate wires, but I wonder if this is possibly something of an issue between the sync combiner circuit and the XRGB mini.

Re: Just got an XRGB Mini...
^ That's interesting.
As far as I know, the sync signal is JUST sync and has no color information. So it should NOT effect the colors at all. I'd be very interested to hear if I'm wrong though. My picture is stable on the screen, not bouncing at all, so I'm sure the sync combiner circuit works perfectly.
On mine, during the start up screen, the white background is mostly red. I checked and rechecked EVERYTHING. I'm at a complete loss as to why it isn't working. If you find out anything, please let me know!
I'm not sure if I feel like messing around with this anymore. The only thing I can think to do is run a new cable from the box to the mini to test for a bad cable. I might just buy an RGB cable on eBay and be done with it.
edit: Hmm, I'm just thinking out loud here... 480p over RGBs is not standard. RGB SCART is only suppose to carry 480i max, and forcing 480p is pushing the limits. I wonder if that has something to do with it?
2nd edit: I just got an idea. I don't feel like purchasing another cable only to find out that wasn't the problem. So I have this pro-grade video transcoder. I'll use alligator clips so I don't have to solder a new cable. I'll clip on R, G, B and sync and see if it works. If it does, then the problem was either a bad cable or the Framemeister (even though people report this works). I'll try and do this over the weekend and report back.

Don't mean to bump and double post, but I didn't wanna go off topic here so I posted this problem in it's own thread: http://racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=49243
