What was the last movie you've seen?

Dagon (2001).....I thought that relocvating it to a Spanish fishing village was brilliant (and probably inspired, to a certain extent, Resident Evil 4).....
Noise and I came to a similar conclusion a couple years ago

....Similar plot concepts, similar atmosphere, similar aesthetic style, there's that whole religious cult thing going on....Yeah. Even without seeing the movie I can see the similarities.

Especially when I noticed this guy in one of the screenshots I was browsing:

I suddenly have the urge to upgrade by bag size.

If members of Capcom didn't take some inspiration from that Lovecraft movie adaptation when making RE4 than I am a Spanish villager's Cthulhu deity.

Yo I looooooove Dagon.

And It Follows.

But yeah, RE4 felt like Dagon The Game to me.

I love RE4 too.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Why did thy call this Mad Max? Should have been Mad Furiosa. If Hollywood wants to replace male protagonists with women they should start using feminine titles in their rehashed movies. It is evident Hollywood is exporting internal US gender rivalries to the rest of the world.

Best thing about the film is the sound design, and of course the kiddie-friendly rating didn't help the action reach its full potential.

Why? I thought the movie kicked ass and enjoyed both the Max AND Furiosa characters. But you are starting to sound like one of those deplorable "men's rights" folks. Seriously, you don't want to be one of them. It all seems very compensatory to me.

I wouldn't have mentioned a thing had they named this title to reflect the true heroine of the picture. There are other movies with strong female leads (Terminator 2 had Sarah Connor as the clear lead, and it's among my all-time favourites, but it was titled Terminator and Arnold had an equally strong presence), and I never complained, actually enjoyed them, but when it's forced like this, that's another story.

Outside of the very first film, Mad Max has always been a victim of his circumstances. He isn't a main protagonist in a typical sense. He is a character reacting to the world around him. He isn't always the focus and the main goal of a film does not revolve around him. He is a wanderer and it reflects that way in the films.

Fury Road, although I couldn't enjoy it (which I am giving it a second shot in hopes that I was just in a super bitchy mood), is very much in style of Road Warrior and Thunder Dome. The films are about the world and the characters more than it is about Max. He is the most plain and simple character of them all and that is on purpose, which is why there is such a following to these films.

Well that's an interesting interpretation of the franchise. May I ask why didn't you enjoy it? I thought the action was pretty good despite being "kiddified".

The way I always saw the series, the first movie is the only solid information known about Max. That's all anybody in the movieverse knows for sure about him. Every other story comes from somewhere else, possibly somewhere that Max never could have been, but has Max thrown in to the story because he is some mythical, legendary person who always happens to be where the action is.

It went from the story of a real man, to the story of a mythical figure. Think of max being along the lines of Hercules, or Thor, or King Arthur. There's an arguable nugget of truth somewhere, otherwise it is just building on a story.

FURY ROAD does what it sets out to do, and in spades. Super good flick.

9 TO 5

This story has been told over and over, and will continue to be told. Jerk male boss + upset female employees out to get revenge. Great writing changes everything, luckily.

9 TO 5 has almost an Edgar Wright feel to it as although the film is story driven by the dialogue, it also has lots of slapstick, cheap laughs, and a good amount of dope.

The mix works perfectly.

My experience was most likely the fault of the theater. The entire film, even the dialog portions between action scenes were sped up. People talked at an incomprehensible speed and the action sequences intentionally sped up moved blindingly fast. I complained but was told that it was supposed to be like that. If so, what a horrible movie. I have to rent it and rewatch it just to make sure. I was really excited to see the film, so hopefully it really was the fault of the theater.
