I'm not sure congrats are in order. This thing apparently SUCKS.

I don't believe it to be defective but it's got me thrown into total confusion.

If I hold B+A for 3sec, switch it to iOS mode, my iphone 5s picked it up and handled it fine in pinball arcade.

If I switch it to Android/PC mode, my laptop will see it as it is by name and pair, but I haven't found something that actually will USE it I own which makes no sense.

Now if I try and lock it into my Nexus7, that's what's infuriating because that's the only reason I got it. It will never detect. I get this hexidecimal garbage D0:4F:7E:0F:FF:11 to pop up when it's on in Android/PC mode, that's it. I got it ONCE to pop up in iOS mode, even by name, but not a second time which is screwball too.

There appears to be no detection or otherwise configuration app for it I can see and it appears to just be a piece of well made (exterior) junk. I've been fighitng with it for over a hour now or two.
...and then it figures as soon as I posted this, it shows up, just once only, nothing consistent. This is maddening!

I'm curious can it be confused by other signals? My laptop puts out bluetooth, and then my tablet also has a keyboard on it. Mind you now both the keyboard and it are synced so I don't know what to think.

Also should this thing turn off after a bit?

Never had any problems like that;

I only ever paired it to my phone, a rooted Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 4.2.2 locked in (strongly do not want the update - it's banal). Before installing the software off their website, it showed up as a peripheral device, first as it's Bluetooth MAC hex number, then immediately before I could select it, it showed up as "Zeemote: SteelSeries Free". Once selected it asked for the pair-code "0000" as per the instructions in the manual. My phone said "keyboard connected" and it was immediately available as a HID device in all the applications. My computer has a GIGABYTE GC-WB867D-I Bluetooth 4.0/WiFi in it and it detects the controller, tho I've never paired it. My dad has an iPhone 4 that I can pair my controller to as well. I think it may be the controller's lack of feedback on which mode it's in and it's connected status that's causing you grief.

I've been able to switch it's input mode back and forth several times, tho with only Android devices being used it was connected but not usable in it's iCade mode.

On your Android devices, I suggest you install the "SteelSeries Engine" app just to verify in it's startup screen that you're in "Default" connection mode and the inputs are registering button presses correctly. It will also guide you through changing input modes and pairing if something has gone awry (they're just text help and a bluetooth wizard, but useful none-the-less).

I know if it's in the "Arcade/iCade" mode while connected to my phone it's inputs show erratic vertical analog movement and it does not allow button presses to register. Turning it off (hold "A" down for a while until the light stays dim) then switching modes (A&B), turning it back on (Hold "A" until the light starts blinking), and reconnecting it to my phone through the phone's bluetooth "paired devices" list makes it usable again on my phone.

I'd be happy to try my controller through other systems to root out the problem.

About it's automatic power-down/turn-off:

Yes, while connected, it's while light flashes intermittently with a long pause to show it's paired and functioning. You can hold down the "A" button for a few seconds to manually turn it off, or, if you turn off/disconnect the bluetooth on your phone/tablet it will automatically turn off on it's own in a few minutes. I think it'll disconnect and shut off on it's own if you do not use it for about 5 minutes too. When I'm done playing a game with mine I manually turn off bluetooth on my phone to save power and put the controller back in the pouch it came in. It's always got hours left in it's battery whenever I pull it out. I only ever charge it if I've been gaming for over 2 hours at a time.

Interesting. I didn't see a steelseries app on google play when I typed in steel series on there, maybe it was removed or I missed it.

I'll have to poke around with it again today as about 1/2 my games or more aren't just tap/swipe stuff. Hopefully it's still just connected and was acting dumb yesterday as a first time hookup deal. I'm surprised how well it works given the size, not very cramped and cradling it the pinky fingers gives it a good firm grab on it as you play. I'm glad they don't used that dumb staggered analog setup MS used some copy cat.

Hmm, not available off their site? Looks like they dumped the app after discontinuing the production...
You can try to sideload it from here, tho I don't know if this site's okay.

PM me and I'll extract the APK from my phone.

This has become serious - I think I'll order another while the price is right.

It's serious eh?

I'm going to bet they want to tank the old one so they can jack the price back up to where they want it with the newer run devices. I wish some companies would be fair and keep more variety up for people of all interests and budgets. It's pretty shady removing the app.
