Yeah, we definitely get sidetracked on this thread. Getting back on topic:
Not ticked off, but very very sad: My favorite bar is in very real danger of closing at the end of the month. And part of the reason for that is what I just said: I called it a bar. It's a club, but barely. It's the only alternative club in Rochester, one of the only ones left in Western NY, and it's twenty years old. Twenty. That's ancient in club years. They do no advertising, many of the regulars have been coming for a large portion of that 20 years (I'm at 14+ regularly myself) and they're aging -- I'm on the young end for regulars at 33.
Their liquor license is up at the end of the month and the owner is questioning if she should renew it. Attendance has been steadily declining, especially so in the last 6 months, to the point where they're straight-up losing money. The main DJ posted a call to action of sorts on Facebook, so hopefully enough people show up this month and put their money where their mouth is to keep them open another 2 years, but we'll see.
In a way, I almost would be okay with them closing? It's been stated that even if they stay open, there's going to have to be major changes to keep it open, and the phrasing was "Some of them you may like, some of them you may not" which makes me wonder if it'll really still feel like the second home it feels like now?
And yet at the same time, I don't know what I would do with myself if they did close. Basically every weekend that I'm not working, I'm at that club. I have never spent an adult Halloween anywhere else. Their holiday parties have been the highlight of my winter for the past decade+. I've been to other bars, but that's like my second home. And so many of the regulars feel the same way.
I dunno. I'm all mixed up over this.

Followup ticked/annoyed: Headache. Bleh. I took some tylenol but it's not helping yet (been about 30-45 minutes) I have 12 hours left at work and really don't want to use any of my PTO today...

Nah. I usually call it a goth bar, but it's really not. Goth, punk, 80's, etc. Basically not the same dance/hip-hop bs you get at 95% of the other clubs out there.stickem wrote:What is an "alternative" bar? A bar that plays stuff like beck lol.

as a dude totally trapped in the 90's, I love that "alternative" still equates to Beck for you.stickem wrote:What is an "alternative" bar? A bar that plays stuff like beck lol.

I moved!!!! Hoooray!!!
I am on a ground floor apartment!! Woohhooo!
I just heard one of the people in the complex walk by our apartment and say, "you can see a bit in their apartment. What do they got in there? Anything good?."
Yeah my head just popped up out of the blinds. Bunch of savages.

Keep your doors locked, Bogus. But congratulations on the move! Relocating is always a pain in the ass to do, but feels great when done. New place, new possibilities!

Bemused: I got reports that a two ships were lost at a particular set of coordinates. I decided to check it out and see if there might be a couple of derelicts I could salvage. Instead I discovered a wormhole to a corner of the sector that deposited me right in the middle of a hostile alien battlefleet. Now I'm regretting not making a safety save before hand.
Sounds like that bar is "Where it's at".noiseredux wrote:as a dude totally trapped in the 90's, I love that "alternative" still equates to Beck for you.stickem wrote:What is an "alternative" bar? A bar that plays stuff like beck lol.
