MS has tried so I do give them credit. Just look at the countless exclusives (JRPGS and Shmups) for the 360, and still they barely sold any 360s in Japan. And lets be honest, Japanese gamers have been extremely stubborn when it comes to trying out western game industry. They are also very "follow the crowd" type and will generally follow everyone else without venturing off the path (Nintendo+Sony).

I can't find any news that's current enough but it seems like MS is closing the gap slowly but surely. Conclusion: The initial price point was a mistake.

This is yet another reason I don't think I'll ever have full confidence in their people. To price it at $500 and try to justify it with Kinect, etc. was a valid approach. Not having any clue that they'd be abandoning the thing because it's really not that useful and makes the machine notably underpowered vs their direct competition is unforgivable.

All they had to do was have a little foresight, match Sony's price point from the beginning, and they would've sold a lot more units in the first year instead of getting decidedly outpaced. Everyone would've seen a console comparable to the PS4 that had a neat gadget included for the same price, but no. They just HAD to shoehorn Kinect into the business plan. They assumed because people are stupid and the original sold FAR too well that another Kinect was basically free money. What they failed to realize was that people understood that they wasted $150 and weren't getting fooled again. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their suits thought they had a budding new version of the Wii on their hands, that's how little confidence I have in them. They let sales numbers be the beginning and end of the entire story, and now they're paying for it. God they frustrate me.

I heard in more than one place that it was nice to see that MS "finally gets it", citing E3 2015. My opinion is they're a long ways away from that. They're just not completely oblivious like they were at one time.

I don't understand Microsoft's insistence at trying to get people to adopt the Kinect. It's a failed proposition, abandon it and move on. Pricing the Xbone at $500 just so that everyone would be forced to buy it was just idiotic, and they continue to pay for the initial bad impression the Xbone got leading up to launch through the higher sales of the PS4.

I'm not saying they can't recover ala the PS3, but they really hurt themselves at the start.

Picked up an Xbox One the other day and have been having some fun with it. Wasn't really expecting to get back into this gen after selling my PS4, but I got a solid deal at the pawns and had some birthday cash :P. Anyways so far I'm really liking it been playing a bit of Dead Rising 3, and just picked up Dragon Age Inquisition, Dying Light, AC IV Black Flag, Ryse, and Sunset Overdrive.

Only things that have bugged me so far is the controller still not having a rechargeable battery, and the game cases which feel so weird thanks to the disc being on the left hand side every time I open a case I feel like I have it upside down  .

Um they do? You just have to buy a play n charge kit. I agree it should come with one, but at least the battery is easily replaceable unlike the PS4 controllers.

In terms of longevity it is nice, but it still kind of surprised me to see they were still pushing AAs out of the gate like they did with the 360. I will give them this though I really like their thumb sticks and I'm really glad they didn't try any touch sensitive shit like the PS4 controllers :P.

Anyone think that Rare Replay is a system seller?
I just heard about it and it has too many great games to pass up, don't even have Xbox one yet and don't plan on getting one till cheap but I actually did a day one purchase for this game.

Yeah really it, Halo 5, and the fact that they are pushing out some backwards compatibility was the extra nudge I needed to pick one up :P.

Went ahead and picked up Rare Replay and Halo Master Chief Collection. Rare Action Replay was $5 off if you had prime so $25 new and Amazon Warehouse had a bunch of the Master Chief Collections "like new" for $24 :).

Rare Replay is great! I never played Banjo (any of them) back in the day, so I'm enjoying going back to that.
