I'm pretty sure that Bone is referring to FFXIII (and its sequels) since he pretty much hates that game.

That said 2 Untold is looking like the game I'll dive in to to really give the series a go. I like the art - if Mystery Dungeon is anything to go by - and one of the things that has kept me away from the other games is the lack of strong narrative. So it's preordered and I eagerly await its arrival.
I'd say Persona Q is just as nasty as Etrian Odyssey is. If you aren't exploiting weakness in Persona Q you're in for a bad time while in EO it's a way to make your life better. And you have much more control over your party skills in EO thanks to the skill tree; the Persona fusion can be very hit and miss depending on what is available at your level.

Edit: @Popo - Interesting. It might just be that some of the stuff in Persona Q is familiar and so it seems friendlier on the surface. I haven't gotten quite far enough in to get a great gauge on the game.

Got my copy of Untold 2 today.

Atlus once again proving that physical releases can still be cool - music CD, an extra DLC class, and a proper full-colour high quality "Staff Book" standard (at least for the first print run). Yeah it's $10 more than most other 3DS releases but I'll happily pay that for something produced in this way. If you're going to manufacture something at least make it worth while you know? Not like those download codes in a box that have found their way to shelves recently (none for 3DS to my knowledge though). Those are just a complete waste of resources.

Anyways I'll be trying the game tonight. Not sure if I'll dive in deep considering I've also got Persona Q (kinda), Xenoblade, and 999 all on the table at once.

Good on you for buying it. Still waiting on my copy.

Do us a favor and play Untold 2 on Expert for a few hours. Then see how you feel it compares to Persona Q. That'd be an interesting comparison to read about.

I'll go ahead and try that because thus far (admittedly only a few hours in) Untold 2 is easy peasy.

It's also very pretty but lacks the production values and weirdness that I really enjoy in Persona Q.

I'm probably about halfway through 999 now and I have to say that I'm in the camp that thinks it's very overrated. It's certainly good but, not quite the stellar VN I was lead to believe it was.

Xenoblade is great but so long. I'm like 10 hours in. I kind of wish I could switch to Japanese VO. I don't care for the British accents - they seem a bit out of place.

I really need to sit down and blast through Persona Q and then EO:U. I've been sidetracked by old DOS games.

I also need to finish the final stratums of EO3 and 4.

Standard difficulty I assume? (I mean there's also Picnic.)

The thing that made Untold so hard on Expert were the bosses. FOEs were bad too, of course, but the bosses were nightmares. Story mode made these even harder, because there are extra bosses in story mode that don't appear in classic mode. Not only that, but in story mode you can't pick your character classes. So you're stuck with what the game gives you, meaning you can't have ideal classes like you can in classic. Beating that game on story/Expert was one hell of a challenge to say the least.

I'll probably play Untold 2 on standard and save myself the PTSD. Reviewers are saying the game is hard on standard... but who's to say what their experience with DRPGs is. I mean they said Soul Hackers is hard, but four hours in the game has been a breeze so far. And that's without using any of the COMP hacks.

Yeah, I didn't find Soul Hackers all that difficult, and I'm no first-person RPG savant or anything.

But then again, I did some pretty efficient min-maxing. Nemissa bailed me out many a time.
