Ben Affleck became a character actor, thus as Bruce Wayne he started spending a lot of money and screwed as many women as possible.
Let it go Jennifer. He was only doing his job.
...NPR and BBC are the only news sources I can turn to as almost all "news" sites contain celebrity nonsense. I get it, but jeez. I do not care about any of the jenners or kardashians. I like to read about things that are,..oh, I don't know...IMPORTANT.

It takes a very special person to think teachers are beneath him.

I do not respect teachers because they are "authority", I respect them because they are human beings and deserve to be respected.Exhuminator wrote:It takes a less special person to respect someone based on authority alone.
Perhaps you agree with him and think that teachers are somehow less respectable than other professionals and deserve derision, but I do not.
Sure, but they don't brag about it on internet forums much later.prfsnl_gmr wrote:True...but almost every kid antagonizes a teacher at some point.

"When I brought up the fact that art is subjective, I was flatly told that was ignorant and stupid to think of art as such." -KidpandaErik_Twice wrote:I respect them because they are human beings and deserve to be respected.
A teacher should dispassionately evaluate the opinions of their students, and not belittle them in front of the class for having different opinions then their own. That teacher could have explained their stance on the issue in a more respectful way to their student. Instead they dismissed the idea in a wholly derogatory manner. If you want respect, you should give respect.

Also true, but I did this because I genuinely respected those teachers. Case in point, I antagonized my English teachers in high school, but this helped further the conversations we were having and helped inspire me to continue reading and doing my work. For me, a little light ribbing was how I often interacted with others, and I always felt like it made the student-teacher relationship better. I was friendlier towards those teachers because I felt I could engage with them and took more interest in the subjects they taught.prfsnl_gmr wrote:True...but almost every kid antagonizes a teacher at some point.Erik_Twice wrote:It takes a very special person to think teachers are beneath him.
I antagonized my English teachers and ended up receiving an English degree and going on to become a librarian.
I antagonized my Math teachers and ended up on the math team.
I antagonized my Art teacher and now appreciate art and film.
I antagonized my History teachers and developed a continuing love for it.

I was under the impression that kidpanda was actually a kid (and I didn't think we should be too hard on him...he did get suspended for two weeks). I could be wrong about that, however.Erik_Twice wrote:Sure, but they don't brag about it on internet forums much later.prfsnl_gmr wrote:True...but almost every kid antagonizes a teacher at some point.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Eh, as someone who went to art school, I would like to chime in here and say that art teachers don't always get their jobs from their art being high caliber. I had college art teachers that were far too embarrassed to show any of their artwork to students for good reason.
On the subjective vs. objective side of things. Well, of course there's the technical aspect which can be judged objectively. Beyond that, art is very hard to judge without needing an explanation of why the artist chose certain elements or what they were trying to achieve. But, then you also have people who make a a swirl with five crayons and say it represents deterioration of a post-modern society or some such bull. I've seen teachers who eat that up and ones who call them out on it.
As for the respect thing, I'm a firm believer that respect is reciprocal. There are absolutely horrid people who make their way into teaching positions and treat students poorly. I don't believe their words should be taken as absolute or that they should be treated with the utmost respect because they're in a position of authority if they're also a jackass.

Respect and rules aren't the same in a classroom. Most teachers do not care about respect, they care about the students following the rules. It's the way of the world.
Okay..."Deez Nutz" jokes are back in a big way. My wife hasn't fallen for one of them, and it infuriates her students.
Also, there are jerks in every profession. That should go without saying.
