But seriously, what I try to do (and this is going to sound completely oddball) is every now and again I put the forum "regulars" on ignore.
It keeps the forum "fresh" for me. It gives me a chance to better read the opinions of other members without them being drowned out by the views of the same old voices that usually permeate most threads.
I'm not saying it always works, but it's kinda fun to do.

Are there any web hosting sites these days that simply allow you to write HTML/CSS/whatever in a blank white Notepad-esque window? Ya know, like Geocities in the 1990s?

It sounds like you might want to just pay for hosting from HostGator or FatCow and upload your own Notepad-created HTML files.
I feel way out of the loop when it comes to this stuff. I used Geocities/Angelfire/Tripod as a kid, then my college's servers for years..... The landscape has changed considerably.
. It was free and let us set up everything ourselves. Plus, it worked great for our purposes, since we needed something that was ad free. A quick search shows me my stuff is even still up and running.
I'm pretty sure you'll still need your own html editor, but if you can navigate yourself around the site, it might be useful.
Gahhh, I gotta figure out a way to get my ass off the internet and game more. I don't even have that big of a back log, I just don't play enough. Plus, using the internet, for whatever ungodly reason, is sucking up time from everything else I do. Gotta figure a way to cut it down. I don't even look at much besides here and a couple of gaming sites, and a bit of facebook.

I'm colorblind but rarely even think about it. I mean, my undergrad degree is an art degree so I had to go through all the life drawing and color theory stuff to get my degree and I did just fine by asking for other people's input when I felt I needed it. Once, in seventh grade I accidentally made a partially purple and blue sky on a perspective drawing and my teacher gave me a really low score. When I explained to her that it was a simple mistake from being colorblind, she called me a liar in front of the whole class. Another time, in my first color theory class, I went up to the instructor early and told her I might ask seemingly redundant or strange questions because I'm colorblind and with much attitude she told me to "get over it."
Of course, there's also funny stuff like having no idea peanut butter wasn't green until I was like 23. Blew my 80+ year old color blind grandfather's mind.
Anyway, one of the more frustrating aspects of being colorblind is it's hard to explain when people ask you about it. Since my girlfriend works at an eye place now, I told her the Optometrist might be able to explain it better than me. When she asked him, he said to imagine it, she should imagine having a gray filter over certain colors and imagine the world as slightly more dreary. Man, that kinda made me want to try those glasses.
It's interesting that a lot of art teachers that I had or knew always were very objective of people's work. When I brought up the fact that art is subjective, I was flatly told that was ignorant and stupid to think of art as such. I would simply reply, "is that why you teach art rather than create it?" I was suspended for two weeks in high school for that remark. Even to this day I felt that I was right.

I think that most art teachers actually do create a lot of art. Like most artists, however, they can't make a (good) living doing it, and teaching art is their day job (and probably a pretty good one).
