Youngest Retrogamer?

My son will be two years old in a week's time. Since he is growing up in a house full of old-school consoles he knows a few things: the joypad moves the funny people on the screen, you have to blow on NES games to make them work, etc. However he did not up to now show anything more than a passing interest in what I was playing, unless it involved cars. It all changed drastically when he came across me playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Gamecube. His eyes opened wide, his mouth opened and he climbed on my lap where he stayed for over an hour, eyes glued to the screen. Now I am only allowed to play Zelda OoT when he is awake. He comes into my room, points at the Gamecube and says "gleen boy" which is what he calls Link. Every Skulltula is met with a worried "papa?" followed by a cheer when I defeat it. Epona is greeted with a "hello" every time I call her and he got pretty good at imitating Ganon's laugh. Which is all really sweet except for one thing... When I switch the game off he goes absolutely batshit insane, throws himself on the ground and cries for a good five minutes before having a nap.
So, I guess he is showing a most excellent taste in games, isn't he?

That is perhaps the coolest story i've ever heard. I hope if I have a son someday, we will share that same father and son time. Minus the batshit part

That's absolutely adorable. It's a very good method of learning too. It will develop problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, reading and counting, etc. He's going to eventually grasp the concepts and will eventually be able to play of his own accord, and that's going to feel awesome when you can play games with your child. I hope to do the same for my own little hellspawn.

My mom got the family an NES when I was 15 months old, and I was hooked to it for hours on end. I even got to the point where my dad was just like "wtf" because I surpassed him in games that he liked, such as Burgertime, Hunt for the Red October, and TMNT. I'd sit in my little blue mini-couch and play with the utmost determination a toddler could summon. It's really humbling now, because I can't get anywhere near where I was back then. Three year old me can beat twenty year old me anyday.
