did the manual install that Gunstar suggested... installing now!
EDIT: Installed on my laptop. Until I looked at the taskbar, I thought there was an error and I was still on 7. Seamless!

I just tried the Xbox One streaming and it works really well on a wired connection at both ends. I was able to play Killer Instinct with no noticeable lag.
However when my Xbox was using wireless on my 802.11g access point and my desktop was using wired, there was some very noticeable lag. I'm going to try again later with an 802.11n access point.

I discovered the first thing that does not work for me in Windows 10 - my headset's microphone. My headset is a Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB. The drivers were last updated by Corsair on 9/24/14. The mic is always on and I can hear my own voice through the headset. Windows doesn't recognize any audio coming from it and adjusting the microphone settings has no effect.
Looks like I am going to be in the market for a new headset. I've got my eye on these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/3217242377 ... =82&chn=ps The drivers for them are supposed to work on Windows 10 and if all else fails, I can remove the USB adapter from them and use their 3.5mm plugs.

THIS. A positive way to ensure 100% compatibility, no drivers ever needed. As a last resort maybe the older headset and microphone could be modified for regular 3.5 plugs?bmoc wrote:The drivers for them are supposed to work on Windows 10 and if all else fails, I can remove the USB adapter from them and use their 3.5mm plugs.

Sadly the Corsair headset is USB only. No such luck with the microphone.CRTGAMER wrote:As a last resort maybe the older headset and microphone could be modified for regular 3.5 plugs?

Thank you.Gunstar Green wrote:It was available on my PC right away but the laptop I wanted to upgrade to test it on wasn't ready yet.Opa Opa wrote:I clicked the notification to get Windows 10 a few days ago... when is it supposed to download?
So instead of waiting this is how I updated my laptop:
Go to this page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10
Download the the proper update tool for 32 or 64 bit.
It says it's for creating installation media like a DVD or USB drive but it gives you the option of updating the computer you're on right now. If your current Windows is genuine and your computer has already checked out for being able to run Windows 10 it should install without any issues.

Yeah I upgraded this weekend and it was painless. Gonna do a clean install now that my license has been activated. I want to change my hard-drive setup anyhow and a clean install gives me a chance to do that. I also want to try and send sound over my video card's HDMI out, so that should be interesting to figure out.noiseredux wrote:did the manual install that Gunstar suggested... installing now!

Re: Too good for a number scheme, Windows 10 announced for 2
so who has installed Win10 on their gaming PC's and can report any game-related feedback?
I've only got it on my Alienware right now, and I think the only game I've ran on it has been Hearthstone haha. I don't have an SSD in my laptop so I've only noticed a very very slight increase in speediness to the OS compared to Win7. This feels like a good excuse for me to get an SSD for my laptop. I sort of like Edge. I mean I like it a heck of a lot more than IE. But for some reason I find it to be pretty slow still compared to even Chrome. Cortana feels kind of neat for quick searches from the desktop though.
But again, all of this is sort of whatever. I had been using Win10 since November so for the most part the OS itself isn't really anything new to me - but I just really want to make sure that there's no huge problems game-wise before taking the plunge on my main gaming PC.

There have been reports of both software compatibility and hardware driver issues of USB headsets and printers. Best to confirm all of these thru each manufacturer before the Win 10 upgrade. Most hardware and software will be fine, good to research first though.noiseredux wrote:so who has installed Win10 on their gaming PC's and can report any game-related feedback?

As to the earlier mention of MS Office not working, some report older versions work and others commit to getting the "Rental" 365 version! No idea why anyone would want to continue to pay fees for a Word Processor. This is as bad as Mcafee pestering one to renew on a new PC; the very first thing I uninstall. For reference, I run a much older Office 2003 on a Win 7 64 bit version on my Laptop and no plans to move up to the abysmal Win 8 or the fixed Win 10.All Office 365 plans are paid for on a subscription basis, monthly or annually.
