I've got some really cool scans of old gamer mag articles for PS IV if anyone cares to see them.

I have beaten Dragon Warrior I, II, VII and VIII, so I have skipped around a bunch. I loved II and VIII and I thought I and VII were good. I have heard fantastic things about III, so I am super excited to be playing this one now!
I hope you like it! I've only played the GBC version and it's hands-down my favorite 8-bit RPG and a really great entry in the series.

In the post above, I love how PS1 looks at least as good, if not better than, PS2.

As good as it was, Phantasy Star I did NOT set the video game world on fire.

I'm also amused that they think Rika's main trait is her powerful spells, and not that she does tons of damage with her physical attacks.

Unfortunately I agree. The game was ahead of its time on a platform not so many people had access to.

I have heard fantastic words about DW III & DW IV, so I am super excited to play both. I really adored II, so I feel like I am on a good upswing in the series. I actually own every game up to VIII and it has been a blast playing through the series.

I'm waiting on Windows 10 to finish installing on one of my laptops, so while that's going on, I'll kill some time talking about my DQ experiences. Only the ones I've actually beaten:

DQ 1 (GBC) - This was a short and sweet experience that I enjoyed very much. It's apparently easier than the original NES version, and I was okay with not having to grind all the time. It was streamlined, linear, and plenty of fun. I'd give it an 8/10, definitely a classic everyone who's into JRPGs should play.

DQ 4 (DS) - I loved the engine the DS games use, very pretty and functional. I really enjoyed having multiple characters' lives to play through as independent chapters, and the way the game ties all that up in the final chapter was quite clever. The localization goes a little nuts with the NPC accents, but it was still charming. I definitely recommend this sprawling adventure. 8/10 again.

DQ 5 (DS) - Unfortunately I did not enjoy this one as much as 4. While it's a pleasant enough adventure, parts of the experience dragged for me. Folks like to make a big deal out of "ya get married" and "ya have kids", but both of those elements are done in rather shallow way. Frankly I never felt any attachment to my kin due to poor character development. (Honestly I think even PS3 did a better job of this and it preceded DQ5.) Strip away the ho-hum story and you're left with a fairly decent JRPG adventure that for me never hit the high points that 4 did before it. 7/10 here.

DQ 8 (PS2) - Massive mammoth JRPG that is pretty mind blowing overall. It's got gorgeous cel shaded graphics and a truly beautiful world to explore. Some of the most amazing sunsets you'll see in a game. The story is fairly simple but it's also sprawling and will take a good long time to get through. The characters you get in your party are all unique and amusing, with lots of witty banter. A humongous JRPG with a great and speedy battle system with some nice challenging boss fights at times. I'd give this one a 9/10 any day.

And that's all I've beat in the series! I'll likely do 9 next.
