A couple years back I ended up finding this Moga Pro controller at the flea market and I've rarely used it since I've had it. Maybe it's their weird software and switch where it seems like a lot of stuff just won't work, even in cases where it's supposed to.
I'm finding many gamepad supported titles won't use it in the HID mode (I get it if it's not supported in Moga 'A' mode.) Some games will just crash if the gamepad is synced in either mode, others will only work to pop up some android quit yes/no type generic boxes like on Dragon Quest I. I got Duck Tales the other day with the 99 cent sale, that one so far has worked 1/4 times with either mode active.
Do any of you game with your android devices and know of something that works well just basically turning it on and not having screw with modes and touchy software? I do know that NES looking controller is fairly simple but it lacks analogs for more advanced stuff.
Are there any easy to use well supported android controllers
Re: Are there any easy to use well supported android control
I'm not sure I've found anything that just works like I want it to. I downgraded my tablet to 4.1.2 to reenable Wii remote support after it was clear that Google wasn't going to fix the Bluetooth stuff they broke. Even that requires jumping through some hoops. I wish someone would code up support for the Wii U Pro Controller, but the only apps I've seen that actually have compatibility with it are the *.EMU emulators.

SteeSeries works better (more compatible) than the others I've owned. I got the pocket sized one but they sell a full sized one as well.

i usually play just future fight and retroarch on android devices. i use a wired xbox 360 controller. and connect with a otg cable. works pretty fine. can't say for other android games though since i barely try other android games.
Re: Are there any easy to use well supported android control
I've seen that steelseries pad, seems some people really are into it.
I mean I could really like this Moga Pro I have if it would just behave, but even in non-Moga HID mode it wants to be pissy about which games it'll work with, and even on games it will it doesn't pick up every time (Duck Tales) or causes the SNK Neo-Geo stuff I have to crash which sucks. I don't have a huge pile of games (maybe 20~?) but more than half can use a controller and this thing isn't cutting it.
Would this get the job done better??

Re: Are there any easy to use well supported android control
Yes, I had many problems getting full compatibility with all the emulators with my other Bluetooth controllers (I had a MOGA, iPega, a Chainpus, and some other keyboard/mouse types). I had to use Bluez IME to convert their input, and some games and emulators still did not respond well.
The Steelseries Free you showed appears to be the same one I'm using now. I can't get the analogs to work on everything I tried, but it is far better than the other ones I had. It's battery life is great and it's durable feeling (I keep in in the bottom of my work bag which I bring everywhere when I'm working).
That's a great price too - I paid much more on sale a couple of years ago.

That's good to hear. As I started reading I got concerned how much would work as it seems to have its own software and I don't think a lot of games support it in android, yet you're saying (HID mode?) it can and is very flexible on its own for detection and proper usage other than a few games not being kind to the analogs. I'm very tempted.
I probably could just sell the moga (keep the stand as it's useful) and break even.

The Steelseries app is just a pairing wizard, diagnostic and user guide/help. It's not even necessary AFAIK.
edit: Tried switching to "Arcade mode" it's a no-go on my OS - Rooted Android 4.2.2
The software just detects analog flashing after a disconnect.
While in it's other mode the software does show the analogs fully working. I don't know if any of my games are actually using it properly - I mostly play emulators for very old games and all my racing games use tilt, not analog input, but many of them detect the analog axis as separate from the d-pad.
Edit2: I just tried SuperN64 with Mario 64 without any input configuration (I never used it on this phone with a controller before). Great success! Analogs are perfectly mapped and working fine.
This is the same thing I found with almost every other game and emulator; With little or minimal configuration this controller just works out-of-the-box.
IIRC I paid over $50 from it's original $80 CAD price. At that price it's a no-brainer.
If I were to get a tablet and plug it into my screen I'd definitely go for a CronusMAX with a Bluetooth Dongle. It makes every USB or wireless controller into a standard HID with no configuration or rooting necessary and makes remapping buttons or accelerometer input very easy through a windows environment. With my phone, anything bigger than the Steelseries Free would be left at home.

Re: Are there any easy to use well supported android control
Well thanks for clearing that up. I'll have to really consider grabbing that as the Moga really tries to push its Pivot app which is the only way the game will work with any games they get supported to it, and the HID mod seems very hit and miss.

What about those mass-produced tablets with built-in controls?
