Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Happy days are here again! (If we get it.)

You're talking about how the first battle against the slimes was DQ8 style while the second battle against the golem was DQ6 style?fastbilly1 wrote:Why do the battles swap art styles though?
I've watched that section a few times and I think the difference is that when he hit the slimes he was controlling using the circle pad, while when he hit the golem he was using the d-pad. When he gets into the first battle he talks about "random encounter" and "3D" and "2D", then after the battle he very deliberately changes to using the d-pad to get into the next battle. Then he hits the next battle and talks about "2D".
So it looks like depending on which input you use it goes more towards the classic 2D experience or the modern 3D experience.
Fuck the PS4 version; this is the version to get.

Holy shit.Exhuminator wrote:Gameplay footage of DQXI on 3DS:
I like how the bottom screen shows the game in a classic 2D look, while the top is a more contemporary 3D angle. Everybody wins?
I want. Now.
So glad this is on 3DS and not a console.

But it is on a console! It's on both!BoneSnapDeez wrote:So glad this is on 3DS and not a console.
Reading Jeremy Parish's piece over on USGamer has convinced me that we've got more of a shot of getting the PS4 version than the 3DS version. Either way, I just hope we get something.
Probably too much to ask to have animated sprites on the 2D battles. Would be awesome if we got that, though.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'll buy whatever console that lets me play Dragon Quest titles. I'd rather play DQ XI on PS4 (although honestly, I'll play both if I can).
Since PS4 also has Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest X (at least in Japan... I'm still holding out some hope of a US version) I'll probably get a PS4 at some point.
I need to get off my virtual duff and get crackin' on DQ IX! And the DQ Monsters: Joker games!

So about to start 999
What's the consensus here? Good? Seems a bit divisive for a visual novel.

According to my HLTB, I beat it for the first time on May 28, 2014. It took me about twelve hours to finish (to get the "true" ending). I rated it 5/10. This was my review:RyaNtheSlayA wrote:So about to start 999

There is some speculation that this is giving us a glimpse of what the NX is going to look like. HD at home, portable for the road. If they really are going to put it on the NX, it makes a ton of sense.
Plus, the 2D version gives them something to easily port to Android/iOS.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Well you and I (Sarge) have had many discussions in the past few years about what Nintendo's going to do next. So what I'm going to say here is going to be redundant for you, but for anyone else who cares I'll say it again.
Originally I thought Nintendo's next console would actually be a console and handheld hybrid device. As in, it's a portable gaming device but also can be plugged into an HDTV and played like a console. Additional player controllers would be added via wireless interactivity.
I changed my mind over time and realized that Nintendo would probably not want to consolidate all their eggs in one basket. So now I believe that Nintendo's next console and handheld will have very similar architectures. The reason being that if a developer puts out a game on the console, it is extremely easy to down-port it to the handheld. That would allow Nintendo for example to release console and handheld versions of their games simultaneously. I think that Smash Bros. on the 3DS and Wii U existing at the same time was a test for this methodology. It would also explain why a while ago Nintendo fused their console and handheld development studios into one building instead of being separate as they used to be.
I could be entirely wrong (and people often are when it comes to guessing what Nintendo's gonna do), but it's fun to speculate.
