When I was a kid I liked CV2 the most on the NES. I liked anything where I felt like I was being drawn into the world and exploring more. My opinion changed as a grew older and became fonder of simpler games.
I still think LOZII is fantastic and come back to it pretty often.

I wouldn't say I like cv2 more than cv3 but i definitely like it. As for loz2, I can't stand it. The first one is nes gaming bliss and then boom whole new thing going in 2 and I just don't like it. I'm glad lttp got it back on track.

Nah, just kiddin'. Zelda II is a game that I liked, then didn't because it wasn't like the first game, and then really came to love. It was also my first NES game.
I mean, yeah, if you asked me if I'd prefer Link to the Past or Zelda II, the answer would be LttP every time. But compared to the first game, I think my answer might change depending on what kind of mood I'm in. One can't call it overlooked by dint of it being a Zelda title, but I do think it catches a lot of flak that it doesn't deserve because it's not aligned with its brethren in style.

All those old game sequels catch flak for not being the same style as the predecessor. But I like cv2 and love mario 2. Loz2 lost me from the get go with its changes I'll admit, but I've given time and chances to get my love...but it just doesn't. The music is fantastic in the game and I appreciate what they tried but other than the game is just lost on meSarge wrote: One can't call it overlooked by dint of it being a Zelda title, but I do think it catches a lot of flak that it doesn't deserve because it's not aligned with its brethren in style.
On a side note my first nes games were loz1 and mm2

Super Mario 2 (USA) was my favorite of the NES Mario games. I don't care what it was called at first or which characters were in it or blah, blah, blah. It ended up being a Mario game and it ended up being awesome!strangenova wrote:All those old game sequels catch flak for not being the same style as the predecessor. But I like cv2 and love mario 2. That said, I've never played Castlevania 2 but I have always heard that you basically can't beat it without the right copy of Nintendo Power beside you or a laptop open to a Gamefaqs walkthrough. But I don't really know if that's true or just something people like to say when they are hating on the game.

As far as 2D Mario games go, I agree that USA Mario 2 is the best. I've beaten it many times. I've only beaten the other 2D Mario games once each in contrast.

If any of you guys watch AVGN much, you might know he sometimes has a guy on his show called "Bootsy". You probably also know that Bootsy is an oldschool gaming badass of legendary proportions. He has always been my favorite part of AVGN (thus the unpopular opinion). Thing is, I actually enjoy his personality (as opposed to say Mike Matei). The good news is Bootsy is starting his own segment on Cinemassacre called Bootsy Beats, in which he plays through really hardcore old games (mostly NES stuff) and shows in detail how to beat them using pure skill as opposed to glitches or tricks. I'm looking forward to watching him play and hearing his Protips. This was the J&M video where they announced this:

Wow I thought it was an unpopular opinion. I prefer smw above all the 2D ones but on the nes it's mario 2. The biggest problem with smb3 is the level length is so short. You just get into a level and it's over.
