Sorry about bringing this stuff up again, but this is just too glorious. Jack Thompson was interviewed by Viral Global News yesterday, and this is what he had to say about Anita Sarkeesian:
VGN: I previously penned an article comparing you to Feminist Frequency founder Anita Sarkeesian. In an email, you told me you “couldn’t possibly disagree with her more about certain things.” What are those disagreements?

Jack Thompson: She’s liberal politically. I am a conservative. She also is all bent out of shape about female stereotyping. Not a big problem when it comes to the more grotesque consequences of kids consuming games. She also tries to curry favor from the industry, as if she were some kind of flirt, speaking of stereotypes. If you are fighting with an industry, you don’t accept their awards and try to be some sort of heroine to that industry. Pathetic, really.

She’s not a warrior on the issue. She’s a self-promoter, and I think everyone has pretty much figured that out.

Also, she needs to stop whining about how badly treated she has been by the industry. I got disbarred and my life threatened repeatedly. When she gets the front window of her house shot at like I did, then I’ll listen to her whining a bit more. The pioneers take the arrows, honey. Deal with it.
Here's the rest of the interview if you are curious.

I haven't read the whole thing yet, but...
VGN: Do you play video games? If so, any favorites?

Jack Thompson: No.
Great first question. And his answer tells me a lot about him.

Him playing games would be like a suffragette having a favorite beer while campaigning for prohibition.

Not really. He said in that interview that he doesn't want censorship or banning or anything. He just wants age restriction ratings enforced. Not ALL games are violent, so why can't he play happy games? The one word answer "no" says a lot about him.

How can you really be against something without having first hand knowledge/experience of it?
VGN: Do you think violent TV and movies contribute towards real world violence? What about violent imagery presented in the news and broadcast on social networks (e.g. ISIS beheadings)?

Jack Thompson: I believe consumption of violent entertainment numbs one to it and thus desensitizes and thus makes it more acceptable. The first time you drink Scotch, it takes horrible, then you get used to it, and like the high as well. The problem with violence in entertainment these days is that it is promoted as normal and in fact desirable. Thus, there is a school of thought to which the entertainment industry subscribes that violence sells, and it does. Just ask Tarantino. His violence is often violence for violence’s sake. That I object to. Video games are not just consumption of violence. The player is the virtual reality perpetrator of it, which breaks down the inhibition to do it in real life much more quickly than passive consumption of a movie. This is why so many of the school shooters are gamers.
I don't feel like typing a wall of text to pick apart this answer. But it's all there. Why he's an idiot. Especially the last sentence.

Ugh, I can't even read the rest of the article.

I'm not gonna waste my time with this shit, so I'll just say this: If video games cause school shootings, there would be a school shooting in every school every day. This dude said, "The player is the virtual reality perpetrator of it, which breaks down the inhibition to do it in real life much more quickly than passive consumption of a movie." How can you make that statement when you don't even play video games? I've ran over a million people in GTA games. I would be SICK and HORRIFIED if I ever did that in real life. I've seen plenty of people shot and killed in video games. If I ever saw someone shot and killed in real life it would probably fuck me up for a long time. I take personal offense to his statements as a gamer. But I'm not even trying to defend violence in video games. I think this dude's time and money is just misplaced. He could do more good elsewhere. Like school psychologists. They're reactive when they should be proactive.

This guy is either trying to pander to a certain demographic or is a number A Grade moron*.

The first time I tasted Scotch I loved it, as many others.

Saying "most school shooters are gamers" is the equivalent of saying "most women who cheat on their boyfriend or husband play candy crush".

I, like others, couldn't stand the absurdity of the interview and didn't read all of it.

*I am aware that A is not a number.

Have you honestly not heard of the escapades of Jack Thompson? He has been in the news for over a decade spewing this stuff. Heck he called the Playstation "Pearl Harbor 2"

Well for years people always have trying to find a reason on why the human's do horrible things. You can blame all the entertainment medias all day if you like but at the end of the day the truth is that some people are just mess up and like to make other people suffer. There's sometimes the case where someone is pushed over the edge and do crazy things, but that is in consecuence of how others treated him/her.

If any sort of media really made you into a killer it would be anarchy all over the world since EVERYONE enjoy's some sort of violence being in books, movies, games.
