Man at this point I'm more concerned about what would happen to the rest of the world if/when your federation implodes someday.Jmustang1968 wrote:Political commentary farcePulsar_t wrote:

It will eventually, but I doubt it is in our lifetimes.

These recent police violations remind me of this classic movie scene

The abuse of power by officials or police is nothing new, just more light is being shed on it.Pulsar_t wrote:These recent police violations remind me of this classic movie scene

Transparency is key. We must watch those who watch us, to hold them accountable.Jmustang1968 wrote:The abuse of power by officials or police is nothing new, just more light is being shed on it.Pulsar_t wrote:These recent police violations remind me of this classic movie scene

Climate change is likely to render south Florida uninhabitable in the not-distant future and it's most likely too late to do anything to stop it even if everyone collectively agreed to stop burning fossil fuels.
Just imagine the kind of crisis that will result from multiple major cities being completely wiped off the map... it does not bode well for the future of large swaths of the country, probably effecting the entire nation. And of course this crises will most likely arise during a time when the US is still engaged in wars across the globe, suffering from an anemic economy, and facing civil unrest resulting from a host of other issues. Looks like the future will be an extremely rocky road.

Excepting for the fact that there's been no real increase in temperature in 20 years (which, of course, is a ridiculously short period of time compared to our planet's climate cycle... as is all our truly good data). And that pretty much all the climate models have dramatically overestimated temperature to this point.
Basically, I'm not freaking out. At least not about floods wiping out cities. I'm totally concerned about the other stuff you mention, like our anemic (nay, contracting!) economy, intentionally-stoked civil unrest, and disastrous foreign policy decisions.

Would losing Florida really be that bad in the grand scheme of things?

Well, I for one would prefer it not drown or get up and float away. Shit like that would be hell for my internet connection.
