I really don't know why those sequences didn't bother me. I guess I just viewed the terrain traversal as a puzzle.
Definitely looking forward to the new one, it might be what forces me to upgrade my PC or buy a console.
So, is there any way to obtain a set that has all the DLC? Or is the Trilogy set with the somewhat-but-not-totally complete DLC the only option out there?

Had the Mako segments survived into the later installments, I would have enjoyed those games' atmospheres more. I loved the immersion of driving around on barely settled planets; the feelings of exploration and openness were beyond beautiful to me. I've spent a lot of time just standing and staring up at the skies in the middle of a Mako mission.
ME2 was more urban-gritty, which was cool and all, but I preferred the relative solitude of the first. ME1 makes you feel small in a gigantic galaxy, and I think the Mako was a large part of that. Also, I just like driving around and finding stuff.
And nothing is worse than the Hammerhead, in my opinion.

Re: Mass Effect Trilogy
The first game was great despite having some issues. It did a good job in setting up plot, characters and the end game. The DLC was not very well done however. Playing as a pure Paragon and then a Renegade I enjoyed the latter more.
As for the transition to ME2 the Regegade option felt better with the whole setting. Gritty: yes but it fit well with Shepard playing on the other side of the coin. He's no longer tied to The Alliance so he can push things a bit further. Now that he knows the greater threat that is the Reapers, pushing the envelope is expected. I like Omega's dark setting too. The DLC was much improved. The Hammerhead is the shit! Much better than that nonsense Mako! Overall I think it's the better of the three.
ME3 is where it goes in a different direction. Now this shit is real. Reapers are here from the very beginning. What happen to Shepards relationship with Cerberus within the 6 month period isn't really discussed. You are working for a final outcome and that outcome is largely based how you did with the other games and how you diffuse situations to net the most amount of those readiness points. You had to play both as a Paragon and a Renegade to get the best outcome. That whole three color (four actually, let's call it colorless like Pokemon Cards) ending is fine for me after the extended cut. All of your choices accumulate through the Galactic Readiness. The DLC was good but even with Citadel it was weaker than ME2.
ME1: discovery of an ancient threat
ME2: gathering a team to confront an enemy
ME3: band a galaxy together to confront the greatest enemy

Re: Mass Effect Trilogy
For the Mako fans, there are quite a few exploration games on Steam with the same theme. You won't get a story for your buck though.

Currently, Trilogy is the only option. Even then, depending on what platform you buy it for, you might be getting more or less DLC.Sarge wrote:I really don't know why those sequences didn't bother me. I guess I just viewed the terrain traversal as a puzzle.

Personally love the trilogy. All of the games have their little quirks that I love. 3 has its issues, but many of those, I feel, would not have been easy to avoid. The way the story was headed, some of those things just had to come.
I do find the style of sci-fi shown in each game is interesting. It mixes things up. The first game is the squeaky clean, save the world, ooh look technology sci-fi. The second had the dirty, grimy, the further we get into space the worse shit actually gets kinda sci-fi. The third, IMO, was the seems squeaky clean, but underneath has terrible things and horrible people sci-fi.
