I can't tell if you're just giving me shit or if you're serious. I thought we were joking around about it.

I would/should use blue text more often but I lack color vision.

Choosing Esuna is ballsy. Let us know who you partner up with!

 Sorry! I didn't mean to be a killjoy on that one.

I will indeed keep you posted. I'm hoping Valsu won't refuse me and kick my ass.

That's how my brain just read that sentence.

I think I need some sleep for real. :|

I have nothing to add, but this exchange was genuinely funny.

I have tried those. :) Not perfect, but okay.

And damn whoever commented on Phantasy Star's grinding earlier today was right. The game just crawls at the beginning. From what I recall it picks up quite a bit later on.

The soundtracks to all four of these games is phenomenal.

It's true, the very first part of the game where you're just solo Alis Landale is the grindiest part. But after you pick up a few party members, and grind for enough meseta to afford the land rover, you're good to go. Once you get off Palma, the rest of the game is a steady pace from what I remember.

Agreed, I'm on Dezoris right now and having zero issue, I don't even roll with healing items cause the grind isn't so bad. Glad I kept all my maps from when I was 14 playing this. Too lazy to keep the iPad open as I play. Remember drawing grid maps?

The first time I beat Phantasy Star I was ten years old, and I did not draw any maps to do it. I didn't even know about grid maps as a thing. I just kept the maze design in my head as I went along. When you're a kid with a whole lot less adult crap running around in your brain you have the cognizant space for such things.

See that's a game I could have never beaten as a child. I had very strict parents and very limited hours to play video games. Something like a Phantasy Star game would turn into the slog of all slogs. I would have never been able to keep track of where I was or where I was going.

Now games like FFVI, Mystic Quest, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and EarthBound I did beat as a kid. But those are much more manageable and easier to take on in small chunks.

Anyway, in OG Phantasy Star I just got the teeny tiny little kitty cat. Grinding for some armor for him.

My parents didn't give a damn and I was a latchkey kid. I had all the time in the world to play video games. Amazingly I spent just as much time outside on my own accord though.

That is precisely my experience. I never drew maps, I just remembered it all. I didn't play much in the way of first-person RPGs, though. Still, I beat Arcana and a few others with no maps.

I was also heavily limited in playing time. I have no idea how I kept it all straight, but I did. I still remember some of the paths through dungeons and whatnot to this day, years later.

So yeah, all that adult clutter that we didn't have certainly helped. There's so much minutiae that I memorized back in the day that I just don't have the mental bandwidth for anymore.
