Iwata has passed away

I think many people are affected by his death because he is - kind of - the face of Nintendo, when he passed away, it felt like some part of Nintendo died.

That's a great episode! I also saw that there are Game Center CX episodes of Fire Emblem and Earthbound, didn't expect that at all, all the episodes I've seen where of more twitchy games!

I was doing some research into cholangiocarcinoma, that being the type of bile duct cancer that killed Satoru Iwata. It turns out this is a very rare cancer, but it does have known causes. One of those causes is:

Thorotrast. This is a chemical that was previously injected intravenously during certain types of x rays. It is not in use anymore. I was wondering if Mr. Iwata was ever exposed to thorotrast. So I did some more research. It turns out in 1985 in Japan, there was medical study on thorotrast-administered patients. One of the listed associates is "Iwata S." : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/4095719#

Now this is all speculation, but based on limited research, if Satoru Iwata was involved in a thorotrast medical study back in the early 80's, it could explain how he contracted such a rare medical condition. I will see if I can get a complete transcript of this study, though it is thirty years old now, so that may be difficult. Then I could determine if this name was either a patient or a researcher in the project.

I'm afraid Francis Tresham will die without anyone interviewing him and he's one of the most important figures in gaming. He's close to 80 years old, if I recall correctly and completely unknown, there's virtually no info on him and he doesn't even have an email address, it's snail mail or nothing.

Consider that he's the man who invented the tech tree with Civilization (1980) and that's one of the least important parts of his legacy. Basically, half of the things that are attributed to Sid Meier were actually his.

I wonder if I should write up a letter to him and ask him some questions. I'm afraid he might not answer or find the questions bothersome
