Akiba's Trip Undead and Undressed has the most garbage combat system I've ever seen in a beat 'em up or action rpg in 30 some years of gaming

Army of Two: The 40th Day - Doing this co-op with my fiancee. It's a dudebro cover shooter for sure, but Army of Two games perform in that genre better than most.
Red Dead Redemption - I'm a big fan of westerns so this game's theme resonates very well with me. The outstanding graphics don't hurt either. I've only put about 3 hours in it at the moment, but I've enjoyed every minute so far. Great fun, even when my horse falls off a cliff with me on it.

Probably my favorite game of last gen. Bonus: The DLC isn't a piece of shit!

If you're talking about Undead Nightmare, that's good to know because it was included with the GOTY edition which is the one I bought.

I think its greatest offensive is that it just doesn't try to do anything spectacular. When I think of recent, bad action combat, stuff like Senran Kagura tends to come to mind, but at least that gives you something interesting to do, even if its not necessary.
The "coolest" bits of action in Akiba's combat (Stripping peoples) takes control away from the character completely, and even that loses its laughable appeal after a few strips. Any action I actually take in the game feels so bare. Golden Axe has more impact.
Basically a $40 virtual trip to Akiba, with the momentary fun of beating people with silly objects, but neither of those kept me in the game long.
Can't say its the worst action I've seen in 30 years, but its far from the best.

That, and seeing people in their underbits is the point of the game. It's not about the quality of actual gameplay, that's totally secondary to what folks should be buying this game for. And I'm one of those folks who bought this game on Vita as soon as it was released.
Another good Japan tourism kinda game:

Good to me anyway but I'm a dirty old pervert so there's that.

Re: What are you playing?
Yeah, I knew going in what I was buying the game for, and to be fair to it, the things I wanted from it, it did well. Runs great on the ps4 too, 1-2 second loading times and no slowdown (Even though they added more NPCs), so they at least touched on what people complained about in the original. VA wasn't bad either.
Bland combat just dulls a game so hard for me. Like I said, Senran is technically subpar, but at least it is wild, I can pretend that there is some threat as I 1000 chain a large group of enemies and cycle silly specials in ma panties.
It is an excellent reproduction of Akiba though, undoubtedly. Looking at comparison pics, it is nearly a 1:1 transition. Having grown up in the same town that I still live in, the idea of virtually travelling to places was always interesting to me, and this was perfect for that.

Yeah it's a good time. The tone is like a B movie so I guess maybe everyone wouldn't like that but it was fun and worth the price when I bought it. They actually put some time into it.

Re: What are you playing?
I'm still playing Red Dead Redemption, and still loving it. As far as action adventure open world games go, this is the best I've played in the genre. Admittedly that has everything to do with the western setting, but there's a lot of variety to the world, it's certainly not just desert and cacti by any means. I've got about seven hours in the game already and I've barely even done any of the story missions. I've just been exploring the vast world, getting into little sidequests and random events here and there. Exploring this game's world is an absolute joy. The sense of scale is astounding and the graphics are still amazing five years later. There's so much stuff to do in the game that's just optional but adds savory flavor. So far this is my dream game insofar as a western would be realized. I do wish you could play it from a first person perspective, that's about my only real complaint (so far).
Here's some pics for fun:

I still say Red Dead Redemption is a fleshed-out spiritual successor to Gun (GC/Xbox/PS2).
