2015 Charity Auction Brainstorming Session

Post by Luke »

...Or the 2016 Charity Auction depending o the date we make a donation.

The point of this thread is not to narrow down ideas of places to make a generous donation to, but to make as many suggestions as possible. Think of this thread a s a place where any suggestion is welcome, and not just about the foundation we choose, but anything related to the charity auction. And do share your stories related to the cause you support.

Some ideas that came to mind:

Form a small committee to oversee the auction. Someone deals with updates, someone formats the list of items for sale, someone handles "customer service", etc. Shared responsibilities would make the auction easier on everyone.

I would love to see a raffle prize.

We've sponsored a singe person in the past and not a charity. Is there any kid in need who also loves the games we do? Would you be comfortable with donating to one child instead of many?

Have you spoken to Dave - I had mentioned running the auction this year in a few email exchanges and he said he still had planned on doing it.

Unfortunately, no.

Not that running the auction takes too much effort, and not that the auctions don't run smoothly when one person is at the helm, but I do believe there would be a lot to gain by having more than one person involved. And if I can help, please let me know.

It's only July, but it's always good to get the ball rolling early.

I'd still like to see T-Shirts, but I'm not up for doing the leg work on that one again this year. I'm gonna look into doing coffee mugs again though.

Pint Glasses? That could be a possible seller.

Yeah, we spit balled pint glasses along with the coffee mugs. I'll look into it.

Also, if anyone cares to try and do T-shirts, you can PM me to pick up where I left off.

I close friend of mine works with Acculink, and I have ties with other print shops, including the one at ECU.

I'll look into what profit margins we could expect.

Plus if we start early and have a ballpark idea of the quantity needed, it would be very cost efficient and effective. A "pre-order" system for mugs/glasses/t-shirts is the best way to go.

Please feel free to give other ideas too that we could vote on. A customized sd drive, usb jump drive, t-shirt, neck tie...If you can put ink on it, I can help make it happen.

Depending on the charity we choose, we can also get a lot of press from the foundation itself. I'd also be willing to go on TV and radio to boot the event.

I know...I'm a bit over the top, but fundraising gets me giddy.

I might do another repro cart for the auction this year. If anyone wants to donate a Universal Game Case (or two) for it, please PM me.
