That's how I feel about my experience with Rapelay.

Also, Harvester is no joke. That game is MESSED UP. When even I am saying something's messed up, that shit is messed up son.

@Sarge - Didn't you beat Heretic back in the day? Also DOOM might have been gory but you were fighting the forces of hell! Fun story, my dad hates video games, except for two. Yes, that's right, he has only ever enjoyed two video games. One was Defender, the other was DOOM. There wasn't actually a point to that story was there? I thought I was going somewhere with that. I really liked DOOM as a teenager though. I actually made a mod for it that replaced the BFG with an image of a dude's hands holding a chicken, and when you shot the BFG, the dude squeezed and the chicken clucked and a giant egg shot out and exploded the room in deadly yolk. True story! Wish I still had that mod but that was over 20 years ago.

Is it strange that I found Harvester to be funny and cheesy to an egregious extent? I thought the game was absolutely horrible, but that was just me.

Huh, Harvester is on GOG.com.... Screenshots look odd, kinda crappy, almost comical. This doofus in the plaid shirt is the protagonist?

(holy crap there are shmups on GOG?!?!:?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!)

It's got a very B movie vibe and it can easily be interpreted as funny at times, but if you put serious thought into the game and the message behind it it can really creep you out.

Is Harvester one of those underrated classics, or is the shock factor it's only redeeming value? I'm not seeing positive reviews online from when it came out.

It is purely shock factor. You can murder kids, people get raped, incest abound, people being buried alive and sexual deviance in every shape and form. The final act itself is almost pure combat and is overly preachy and attempting to be art in some asinine way.

The game is some ridiculous commentary on violence in video games and it falls hilariously flat.

I've found myself really sucked into Elder Scrolls Online. There's a decent amount of missions that are solo only so it's kind of playing out like a regular Elder Scrolls game. I think I prefer it over Oblivion at any rate even though it shares a lot with that structurally.

Arch Rivals

It's no NBA Jam, and it's not as good on the Genesis as the original arcade game, but it's not terrible.

Basically it seemed to wanted to be the "Natural Born Killers" of the video game world. Basically they flood the game with ultra violence while at the same time occasionally pointing out how wrong it is :P.

I found it kind of creepy in the way they kind of ease you into committing increasingly more violent and unethical actions. The game is purposely built in a way to simulate brainwashing. Basically your first few objectives are petty stuff like keying cars, then it progresses into murder, and then finally into mass murder. By the end you have killed a few hundred men, women, and children. The ending is really twisted as well.
